i am currently 23 with 3dc under 5 and unemployed, although my dh is employed. i really want to embark on a career in midwifery but really do not know where to start. can anyone help me with regards to which qualifications etc i would need.

i have 10 gcses a-c, but i assume this alone is not enough to start straight into midwifery, is this correct?

all help would be appreciated.

TIA x

My first stop would be the hospital closest to you (if that's where you want to train) website. That should link you to the unversity that does the degree for your chosen course. I am not sure whether you can do direct entry midwifery training or if you need to do a registered nurse training first.
I have TBH, I think you would struggle with three DC. There is a lot of studying to do as well as the shifts.
Good luck though.

thankyou kreecher. i am just researching the idea for the moment and maybe considering doing a few a levels to get me back on track and then hopefully will go into the midwifery bit once all dcs are at school and more independant.

contact whichever university is closest/you want to study at and ask them what entry requirements they have. Direct entry midwifery is hideously competative, loads of applicants for each place.
It's very hard work and you will be expected to work all shift patterns so you'll need reliable, flexible childcare.
Access course are a good way to get back into study mode and can be done part or full time. ALso some healthcare type experience is good.
Look at here lots of tips about everything midwifey.

Hello lacy leggings, im also 23 with 2 dc looking to do midwifery, i was advised to do an access to nursing course first, as this shows the university you are capable of studying, apparently almost everybody who does this course will get onto their chosen degree course. Also are you able to get a part time job as a halth care assistant at your local hospital, i do a twilight shift which fits in great around husbands work, 4-9pm. I also sometimes do a couple of night shifts!

Hope this helps xx
