Go on, impart your wisdom to me!! Need a huge kick up the arse and told what to do!

Left school at 17 with 5 A grade Scottish Highers...and worked in a supermarket since :( Not that there is anything wrong with that, if thats what you want to do, but I don't, I so don't!

Before going on maternity I had worked my way up to Assistant Manager. However, the pay is really crappy and the hours longs and unrewarding.

In the lucky position that we can survive just about on DH wage if I go to Uni/College next year, but I still have the same problem as when I left school that I don't know what I'd like to do!!!!!

Always been interested in medical matters but Highers I choose don't really tie in with that, Accounts, Admin, English, Maths and History Confused

HELP!

Hello, you could volunteer at your local school for a few days see if you like that, then do teaching assistant training.

I've found this website really helpful for browsing job descriptions and finding out what qualifications you need to get them. I've just withdrawn from a course I was supposed to start next week due to finances so I'm always looking for jobs that may be cheaper to achieve!

Just looking at your subjects, how about something in the legal system? You could maybe start as a legal secretary then work up to be a legal exec then solicitor.

Another thing could maybe be a librarian?

You'll probably need to get you IT skills up to scratch for most jobs, maybe that could be a good place to start.

If you fancy something medical how about being a paramedic? my dsd is looking at doing that and she doesn't have any medical/science based qualifications either and only has gcses. You can do the qualification as a diploma I think

Thanks for ideas :) That web site is fab, will have a good look through now.

Got news today that I can do a distance learning Human Biology Higher this year, which is great and will be interesting if nothing else.

Also going to look into volunteering to gain some experience before I make any decisions.

Hi sugarmuppet, you could try the direct.gov website. Its great. In the employment section there are many helpful hints and tips. I started by phoning careers advice as like you was unsure what to do but wanted a better career, perks and future for me and the children. They told me about the website, and if it were not for researching i would have fallen back into the same boring office jobs i actually dont enjoy and get bored of in 2 years. They have a questionaire section which asks about you what you enjoy and many questions you would not have thought relevant. At the end it, it gives you options of job roles which may suit you. And then the clever part is that in another section you can read about all the job roles, what qualifications you need, useful links and how much you can expect to earn. I have just started a btec diploma level 2 in construction as i would like to become a building surveyor eventually. Downside is i have had to start at a level 2 as only have my GCSE's and my level 2 hairdressing but no construction experience. I am 29 and they are all really young!. After one year i will do the level 3 which is another two years and then i can choose my specialist degree (Building surveying) Good luck x I would definately give careers advice a call they are really great at this and can give you the information on exactly where the questionaire section and job role section is as i cant remember !
