DD2 (19) about to go to Spain for an intensive Spanish language course, any advice or tips about managing finances, insurance, health care etc gratefully accepted.
( we'll be funding all expenses but she is very sensible )

Make sure she has her EHIC Medical Card for a start.
Many companies do specific insurance for this kind of thing. Shop around, but I used Boots and Endsleigh for two different occasions (a long time ago).
I assume she won't be out there for too long, so it won't be worth her getting a Spanish bank account (unless its over a year I'd say), so her UK current account, bearing in mind that a fee is taken every time she uses a card machine, means it is best if she takes out larger amounts at a time, provided she has somewhere safe to keep it.
Credit cards are best for purchases (not cash) as they are insured and usually don't charge. Some give you cashback too, so worth investigating different offers.

How long is she going for, where, and does she have accommodation sorted yet?

Get a Santander bank account?

EHIC will not cover repatriation of the body. (Grim I know, but worth thinking about.)

The pre-paid cash cards are useful as not linked to your bank account. You open it in your name but with DC as the subsidiary holder, then you can top it up as required. We used this recently for DS's 3 week trip and it worked very well. (Thomas Cook's)

My DD has just been abroad for a year and did have to open an account at a local bank as she was to receive an Erasmus grant into it, plus some local payments. But if DC not receiving payment from the Spanish, and not there for long, then I agree no need.
