hi

DS has just very belatedly got onto a degree course - its a foundation degree with the opportunity to go on to do a Bsc hons in the 3rd year.

he has SEN so this seems a really good option - he gets another couple of years to mature before going to uni full time. he was however meant to be going back to college for a 3rd year which has now gone by the by.

he still needs to apply for student finance. this is completely alien to me as we thought we still had another year before having to think about all this!
do they ask what the parental income is? the reason i ask is because i am between jobs - but i do have a new job scheduled to begin 6th september. i left my old job last week. i start new one in 2 weeks. how do i explain this if i have to? will it affect his entitlements?
ta in advance.

Vicar - you can be assessed either with or without income it's up to you. Your son won't get any grant if you choose not to be income assessed he'll just get the loans.

They assess on last year's income though (we're on 2nd year for ds2, applied in Feb and were assessed on 08/09 income) I think you can ask to be assessed on current income if your circumstances have changed.

Be warned - Student Finace England are crap. Seriously crap (s'cuse the language). every other person has a horror story about them; I'm currently waiting for a travel grant form for ds2 that we've asked for at least 3 times.

Have a look at the website Student Finance for info. you could try calling them but I wouldn't hold your breath. Sorry tosound negative.

You can send your 'month 12' wage slip if you have that. I don't think the tax credits forms are acceptable.

oh buggeration. do i sound like the kind of person who knows where her wage slips are!

i have started a thread in chat - i need organisation skills help. i admit it!
