Studying full time as a single parent - how do you do it??

I'm soon to be a single parent of two children.

Studying full time I won't get income support but apparantly the Child tax credits will be unaffected. So as far as I can work out my income will be:

Child tax credits £98 a week
Child Benefit £33 a week
Child Maintanance £35 a week

That gives me £166 a week to live on.

My rent will be more than that!!!

So obviously I'll have to claim student help. How much realistically can I expect from then?? I will be studying nursing. I need to work out whether this is realistic or not.

Are you doing the Nursing Diploma?

I may be out of date but it used to come with a Bursary; I'm sure you could check this sort of thing online.

Would Direct.Gov.uk be any help?

Hi
I have just come across this message, and hope Im not too late to reply, you probably know all this by now, apologies if you do, jut ignore this!
I am a full time uni student doing an undergraduate degree in food science. I am also a single parent of one. I get full financial support from student finance england, including 85% childcare fees, special support grant, parents learning allowance, maintenance loan and tuition fees paid, meaning they will pay my uni directly the full tuition fees and three times a year I am given my allowances from student finance which for me comes to about 4500. However everyone is different so go on to the direct.gov website, click on student finance and there is loads of info there.
Also tell your local authority who will give you an updated housing benefit notice if you rent.
Hope this helps
