ds will be 17mo when we go on holiday in the summer. the place we're staying doesn't have a highchair though so we need to take one with us. we have one of those fold up fabric jobs but TBH it's a bit crap.
we're taking the car so have a bit of room but obviously not enough for a proper high chair!

what do you do/ recommend?

Would a booster seat not do, wouldn't take up much room, and can attach to most seats.

I have one like this, it's really handy and doesn't take up too much space. This looks even better though.

I take a piece of oilcloth and put it on the table under the clampy bits of the chair.

Hmmm I'm not sure about booster seat as he's nit ready fir one if them yet but may well be by the summer.
The ones that clamp on to the table are a no go I think. Ds is already bigger than an 18mo so by summer he will be pretty heavy and as the cottage is v nice I don't want to mark the table.

you can get booster seats that attach to the chair they look quite good. they sell them in boots or mothercare.

I'd go for a booster if I were you. There's still several months to go before you go and it's amazing how quickly they develop in that time.

I have one of these. It's full size highchair that folds completely flat (only about 3 cm deep) with one simple click. You carry it like a briefcase. I've linked to this site, becuase it has good photos of it folded flat - but I've seen it in stock on other websites.

I originally bought it for my parents to keep behind their kitchen door when they were looking after DD 3 days a week. Now it is back at my house and I often take it out to with us if we aren't sure there's going to be a highchair at out destination. It often lives in the car for long periods, doesn't take up any room at all really, when DS was in a rear-facing seat it used to fit in the gap between the front passenger seat and his car seat.

6 years after we bought it it still looks good, and has survived much wear and tear from my 2 little monsters darlings.

We borrowed one of these which was perfect for about 14mo onwards - doesn't take up too much room, will fit lots of seats - good for taking to restaurants etc...

What about an Ikea Antilop? the legs come off and the seat is not that big. We took one with us when we last went away.

Eglu · 12/03/2010 10:14

We have this one and it is handy for travelling with. here

MrsJamin · 12/03/2010 10:16

Handysitt would be perfect, folds very flat, fits most chairs.

I second the Ikea Antilop. We used it as a box, so it didn't really take up much space, and shoved the legs in the footwell. And it's cheap. Obviously not good if packing to go on an aircraft.

The other option is to look in charity shops/car boots which often sell the booster seat type of high chairs for a couple of pounds - so you can even leave them at your holiday home, if you realise you're bringing home more junk stuff than than you took.
