Where to put baby in the kitchen?

Hi all, please hit me with your recommendations.. I'm after a seat of some kind to safely put my almost 7-month old whilst I'm doing stuff in the kitchen.

  • She hates her bouncer now because it's too laid back and she just wants to sit all the time
  • if I put her in the high chair she starts getting irritated after 5 mins as I think she associates it with food and wants some
  • the jumperoo is only good for 10 mins or so
  • on the floor on a mat with cushions around her is a pain as she keeps falling so I have to keep rescuing her and also it's too low down so she gets upset not being able to see me all the time when I'm hidden behind the table or something
  • we have a Fisher Price 'Sit Me Up' which was perfect, she was sat upright, she could play with toys hooked on it, we could put it on a table as it has a mega wide base and she loves being high up... but she's too chunky for it now so can't get in/out very well

Any seat anyone can recommend??

Thankyou in advance!

could you get a bath seat like this, and put it on the kitchen floor where she can see you? It's obviously smaller than the mat and cushions so she can be put closer to you, and it can swivel so you can turn her as you move around the kitchen

Ooh thankyou that's a great idea which I hadn't thought of it. Sadly - just looked on the page - it's max 10kg and she's 9.5kg. It's her thighs which are really chunky! So this prob wouldn't last long ..

Might not be what you were expecting but at this age my sling was an absolute life saver. I learnt how to get DD up on my back and she LOVED it! She could see exactly what I was doing (over my shoulder) and I could just crack on.

There's a few options you can look into plus loads of tutorials on YouTube. Honestly it's sooooo worth it.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 12/06/2020 14:43

ah ok, this one is suitable from 6 months-2 years, so might be worth a look? It doesn't swivel but you could still position her where she can see you

DD would be in the sling at various points until she was about 3!! Going to the beach, buggy carried the crap, I carried the toddler... long walk / need to get somewhere fast up she goes, disgustingly muddy festival, no probs, nice clean toddler up on my back.

What about a bumbo type seat, maybe one that straps to a kitchen chair?

shazchip · 12/06/2020 14:55

Ooh love these ideas.

@sleepismysuperpower1 thanks for pointing out the bigger bath seat, it looks like it might be good and it's not too pricey so not too much lost if it doesn't work.

@FusionChefGeoff thanks for this, I put her on my front sometimes but then as you know I can't see what I'm doing. I haven't tried back yet, one I will try for sure! No doubt I'll end up with vomit in my hair but at least my kitchen will be clean

@TeaAndASitDown yeah I thought about the bigger bumbos but she often flings/jerks herself backwards so i think they'd just fall backwards. I didn't know they did strap on ones, I'll have a look thanks!

Mamas and papas used to sell one

How about something like this ?? Would keep them occupied

shazchip · 12/06/2020 19:37

@jsfans
Ooh this looks lush and pretty spacious.

I'm off to search for cheaper second hand ones :D
