Reclining high chair

Hello all!
Thinking of the Peg Perego Siesta as it has wheels so can be wheeled easily with baby in from the living room into he kitchen. Baby is 5.5 months and is trying to pull himself forward out of his bouncer so thought reclining high chair would be better for him to sit in?
Has anyone had the peg perego siesta or can anyone recommend something similar? Also seen the cuggl pumpkin as well. I know a lot of people say the ikea antilop but wanted something to use now.
Thank you all! Smile

We had the bloom one with the cosy inside which could also be used as a crib and recliner.

Heavy and sturdy and felt really safe but made it a pain to manoeuvre.

Loved it though.

Just looked at the bloom fresco, a bit too pricey! ConfusedBlush
Don’t mind spending up to £200-£250 as obviously it’ll be used for a few years.

Our highchair lasted max 3 months. Ds1 just never looked comfortable and the straps were weird and seemed to keep pulling him back. We got a booster seat that strapped onto a kitchen chair. Cost about £20

Our DD wanted to be in a big girl chair by 18 months. So our high chair lasted a year.

Why do you want a reclining chair? You will only be using it for eating (as a crawling/walking child will not want to be still for any reason) and they will need to be up right for safety.

MarthasGinYard · 18/06/2018 09:15

Blimey I've just googled and seen how much they are now.

We used from a couple of months up to about 2 and a half so had plenty of use, but unless they have worked on the portability I'd probably look at the wheeled one you mention if you'd like to move it around.

EssentialHummus · 18/06/2018 09:16

I think one of the Cosatto ones reclines? I really battle to understand why you want a reclining chair though.

Smellybears · 18/06/2018 09:18

He’s trying to pull himself up but can’t quite sit by himself yet so thought of the recliner. Are they no good? I know he’s got to sit fully upright to eat.
We have a breakfast bar and our chairs have low backs so a strap on seat isn’t an option. I don’t like the look of the chairs that clip onto the worktops, I’d be petrified it was going to fall off 😳

We got our high chair from Aldi. Only about £30 but I really wanted it because of the recline function. In reality I didn’t use it once! DD will only stay in it to eat and then she wants out straight away.

Smellybears · 18/06/2018 09:21

I want something that looks sturdy. Went into Mothercare yesterday and looked at a few joie, Chicco and own brand and they looked very wobbly and not very safe, wouldn’t feel happy putting baby in.

We used fully reclined as a crib when dd was tiny but rarely used other than upright after that.

Nice to have the height option though to be able to use at breakfast bars etc.

EssentialHummus · 18/06/2018 09:22

He’ll be sitting in no time though. I have a nine month old who was fairly late to sitting. I’d go for the Antilop with the inflatable insert for smaller babies.

MarthasGinYard · 18/06/2018 09:22

Agree some of them look so flimsy.

Smellybears · 18/06/2018 09:24

Forgot to say, something that folds up would be ideal

Has anyone seen the cuggl pumpkin in real life?

We've got a chicco one. Used from 5 months and still in use now at 2 years. It's pretty heavy and sturdy also it has wheels on the back so easy to move. £80 I think. It does fold up but it's not much of a space saver.

Smellybears · 18/06/2018 09:33

Mamas and papas snacks as well I’ve seen which looks similar to the cuggl but has wheels on it.

Snax not snacks

Ponderland is that the chicco progress you have? Had a nosey and seen real mixed reviews on it but it does look comfortable and built well

Sorry I can't do a clicky link.

It is really sturdy and has a very thick cushion my sons not great at eating and has some major tantrums in it, no injuries so far! If you have the space for it then it's a good highchair, it reclines, goes up/down, different levels for how close the tray is, the foot rest can be adjusted, seat inserts etc for young babies etc. It's lasted really well and my son enjoys been in it.

Have you been to try any out with the baby? I went to mothercare and just messed about with a few to see which was the easiest to use.

Smellybears · 18/06/2018 10:12

Thank you!
Yes had a look in Mothercare, that’s where I saw that a lot of them looked cheap and by very sturdy. They didn’t have the Chicco one you’ve mentioned or the progress I’ve found online , it was a really basic looking thing.

Anyone able to recommend the ikea high chair?

fieldmuse · 03/08/2018 00:24

Yeah the ikea one is great. My baby can't sit unaided yet but is fine in the antilop chair with the inflatable insert. They need to be upright, not reclining, when weaning, so they can lean forward in case of choking.

I have never ever seen the point of reclining high chairs and when I've used them in rental houses etc they are terrible.

ISeeTheLight · 03/08/2018 00:25

Yes the IKEA antilop is amazing. My DM bought one for DD. Much better than the £££ stokke one we have. IKEA all the way. You can even stick it in the dishwasher. It's also the only chair we found DD sat in comfortably from 5 months or so. Including expensive recline ones we used eg on holiday. She'd just slide around in those.
