I need to get a good highchair and I don't want it to cost the earth but equally don't want it to look cheapy or that it belongs in a fast food restaurant!:) advice please...must haves:- tray, adjustable height, be able to clean straps, look nice!

Thanks :)

I would recommned the IKEA one but it is fast food restaurant and non adjustable...

LydiaWickham · 04/03/2012 20:44

ooh, learn from my mistakes - get one with a bar between the legs not just a strap you have to do up, this way your DC is 'safe' as soon as they are popped in, without you trying to hold them (while wriggling) with one arm while trying to do up straps with the other.

MrsKitty · 04/03/2012 20:52

Ikea antilop. Reliable, easy to clean, not that ugly. Wouldn't recommend anything else.

lou4791 · 04/03/2012 20:56

Ikea antilop is the perfect highchair.

PigeonPie · 04/03/2012 20:58

The Tripp Trapp might be a lot more expensive, but my DSs are now 6 and 4 and the chairs are still going and will do for years to come, so cost per year means they are far more economical! And they're beautiful Smile

whostolemyname · 04/03/2012 21:00

Yep Ikea Antilop. In fact its so cheap you dont have to clean it you can just buy a new one.

If you dont want to do that though it does chuck in the dishwasher.

Yawner247 · 04/03/2012 21:03

I can honestly say go with the ikea antilop...everybody knows it makes sense 15 spondoolies and so easy to clean! Everyone I know has one and said its the best money they've spent...alternatively you can pay fifty whole spondoolies for a very similar highchair from John Lewis but it is slightly funkier looking!! Grin

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 04/03/2012 21:05

Does it really ned to be adjustable in height?

Be able to clean straps - they can all go through the washing macine ime.

Looking nice usually = more nooks and cranies for food to get stuck in (apart from the Tripp Trapp).

Unless you want to spend £££££'s, the Ikea Antilop is your answer Smile

BikeRunSki · 04/03/2012 21:05

Antilop, although not height adjustable.

PigeonPie · 04/03/2012 21:18

Well, I think they need to be height adjustable. I am 5' tall and absolutely hate it when I sit in a chair which I can't reach the floor on (yes it does happen!) because my feet and legs go to sleep.

As I don't like it, I wouldn't do it to my children!

4madboys · 04/03/2012 21:24

most high chairs have a foot rest dont they? we have always used the tripp trapp chairs, htey are totaly adjustable, both the seat bit and the footrest can be adjusted to suit.

dd has a chicco highchair that is quite good, it fold flat and stands up out the way and is easy to wipe clean.

GreenEyedMunster · 04/03/2012 21:29

I have a Tripp trapp and bought an Ikea antilop just to do for a while when the twins were weaning.
I had fully intended to buy a 2nd Tripp trapp.
I now own TWO Ikea antilops. They are fab. Simples.

StetsonsAreCool · 04/03/2012 21:30

Another vote for the Antilop.

Doesn't have a foot rest, but DD has a whale of a time swinging her legs around.

Not height adjustable, but it is the right height for every dining table that I've come across, so they can sit at the table rather than a foot away behind a tray.

It has a removable tray, and the whole thing is dishwasherable when you take the legs off. And because the legs unclip easily, you can just throw it in the boot of the car when you go out to eat, just in case the restaurant doesn't have its own highchairs.

Kaloobear · 04/03/2012 21:31

We have a Dan chair which is basically a fake Tripp trapp. It cost about £50 from Amazon and is great.

VickyCM · 05/03/2012 09:56

I'm off to Ikea!!! thanks all, very helpful indeed
