Highchair middle-ground

Hi

Is there a good highchair that would suit a larger than average 5mo baby that isn't as cheap as the Ikea Antilop or as expensive as the Trip Trap? Love all your reviews but surely there's something in the middle that doesn't cost the earth, is wipe clean and isn't huge.

I have this I bought it in Boots.

What's your objection to the Antilop?

onebyoneNOTfourbyfour · 23/09/2010 12:05

No objection to the Antilop, although haven't actually sat him in one yet, just wondering whether anyone on here actually has something that isn't an Antilop or a Trip Trap and is happy with it and would recommend. Trip Trap is out of my budget range and I have to say am gobsmacked at how cheap the Antilop is.

we had this

I loved it because:
you can flip the tray to the back so DC can sit right up at the table (not sure we ever used the tray TBH)

it's very sturdy

it's in a reasonably inoffensive wood

and it folds away.

The latter two were important to us as we we living in a small open plan flat at the time, so didn't want too much plasticky children's stuff taking over.

The Antilop is brilliant - easy to clean, easy to travel with (if you ever need to), and looks fine. I would buy it (mine was picked up free from outside an expensive house in Hampstead).

IsItMeOr · 23/09/2010 12:08

Fair enough - well, the Antilop really is that good, in my experience. It's certainly not one of those cases when you get what you pay for iyswim.

I'd say, give it a try - I mean £14, where can you go wrong? - and if it doesn't suit you and your little one then look at something else. Definitely get the tray btw.

FloraFinching · 23/09/2010 12:09

lookie - cheaper on amazon.

IsItMeOr · 23/09/2010 12:10

Oh, sorry, you only need the tray if you're going down the BLW route.

It will sit right up at the table if you don't have a tray. It's sturdy, inoffensive in white, and the legs come off so that you can pack it away/take it to GPs/friends.

FloraFinching · 23/09/2010 12:13

you don't need a tray to BLW though - I had no qualms about sticking the food straight onto a placemat if DC was going through a plate lobbing stage.

IsItMeOr · 23/09/2010 12:18

That's interesting Flora - I think DS has always been relatively strong (wiry, but strong) and had a long reach for his age, so the placemat would definitely have gone too Grin.

I have an Obaby Megan highchair in White. Looks pretty much the same as a tripp trapp and cost £32.99. I have an Antilop too which is great as well and I take it to work and for visiting etc.
