Hayley D’Souza is the Senior Communities Officer at Sense about Science, an independent charity that campaigns for the use of sound science and evidence in public life. She’s passionate about ensuring communities have a voice in decisions that affect them.

Is Parliament looking at the facts on issues you care about? Where should MPs be asking more questions? This is your chance to ask the people in power about AI, social media and more.

Ever wondered what kind of evidence MPs actually use to make the big decisions that affect your life— on social media, AI, healthcare, childcare, energy bills or education? We’re giving Mumsnetters the chance to put your questions directly to the people in power.

Send your questions on the evidence behind issues you care about and want raised at this year’s Evidence Week in Parliament to Sense about Science, an independent charity that champions evidence in public life.

What is Evidence Week?

Now in its 9th year, Evidence Week brings together the public, researchers and parliamentarians to discuss how evidence is used and scrutinised at Westminster.

Evidence Week will open on 6th July, led by members of the public like you, who will question MPs and other policymakers about the evidence behind major policy decisions. We’re gathering questions from across the UK - everything from education, science and technology, business and trade, culture, media and sport, and defence – for example:

  • How does Parliament assess evidence of the impact on young people of the rapid adoption of AI technology?
  • Lots of people worry about fairness in the system. What evidence do MPs look at to work out if policies are fair?
  • Does Parliament feel on top of the latest evidence about effects of social media on children?

How to get involved:

You don’t need to be a policy expert, just bring your curiosity and a question.

👉 Vote for the questions you want asked to MPs.
👉 Or submit your own question.

Even if you just have a rough idea of a question, we can help with the wording so you can get the best answer at the event.

If your question is selected, you could join us in Parliament and ask it in person on Monday 6th July. We’ll cover your travel costs if you're coming from within the UK. Can’t make it to Westminster? No problem—we can ask your question for you on the day.

Vote for or submit a question here.

By voting and putting forward your questions, you’ll be helping MPs understand what matters to real families—and reminding them that evidence matters.

We’ve had amazing questions in the past, covering everything from homelessness, solar energy, special educational needs and disability provision, and even allotment planning! Sophie, a Mumsnet user from Hendon, joined us last year to ask about the evidence on social media and smart phones.

“It was a fantastic experience with MPs showing a clear willingness to engage. There seemed to be a general consensus that social media and smart phones are impacting children’s health and wellbeing...MPs mentioned that a two-hour limit could be set per social media platform. I’d like to know more about where that number has come from and what evidence parents need to look at.”
