Grandparents

My parents have turned out not to be doting grandparents, they show little interest in me or my children, and if they see them at all it is by me visiting them, they never want to call over. They don't invite me over though, and often tend to be deliberately out or away on the only day I can visit them. They never offer to babysit or call to speak to the children. A lot of the time when I do visit, they spend their time on their phones, or on Facebook or looking at videos, ignoring me and the kids, which I find really rude. However, I feel like I can't say anything or complain,, as financially they are being very generous to my kids, just not with their own time or showing any kind of interest in them. Am I being unrealistic to find this behaviour upsetting? My kids only has one other grandparent who lives 2 hours away and my parents are a 5 minute drive away. What should I do?

I think they sound awful ( sorry). Not to be interested in your grandchildren is something I just don't understand.

Yes I don't get it myself. I think it's a bit cruel to the kids. It really hurts me when I see other grandparents at school collection taking an interest in their grandchildren. Mine have never collected my kids despite living 5 mins from their school.

Do they perhaps have other grandchildren that they see?
As for whst you should do, I'd just try and let them know that you'd like them to be more a part of your children's lives.
Good luck 👍

I can't imagine not being a part of my DGC lives and all mine live hours away from us.
I think you need to temper whether the financial benefits out weigh the "physical" attention.
They ought to keep in mind that when they require your help, when one of them is left on their own, or they require help with care, you may not be available.
