Grandparents moving abroad

My parents are moving abroad, thousands of miles away. Our children are 3 and 4 and we have no other family nearby. I’m devastated - they want a warmer climate and a better lifestyle. They’re excited and looking forward to their new life. I feel resentful and upset.

No not fair. I have and always will take care of my own children. They’ve babysat twice in four years, so we never put on them in anyway. My only concern is to keep relationships going - which will be challenging 6000 miles away.

Really upsetting for you. Have they said how they plan to keep in touch with you and the grandchildren in future? Will they visit, or invite you to visit and if necessary help with travel costs? Try to talk to them before they go about how they see things unfolding, and tell them you will miss them (if you will).

They’d like us to visit - haven’t mentioned paying for us. They assume we will pay. We said we will do our best.

They don’t intend on coming back for a visit.

They don’t like the UK - we are close, but their need to be in a warm climate etc. seems to trump everything else. Upsetting.

Aw I really feel for you.
My DH and I had a very loose plan to maybe buy a place in a warmer climate and live there over the winter coming back to the UK for the summer.
However, our daughter had a baby and then 6 months later our other daughter had a baby, and now there's absolutely no way we would move abroad for any length of time.
I can understand your parents wanting the warmer climate etc, but personally cannot understand them wanting to leave you and the grandchildren behind.
I really hope you all manage to work out this situation.
FaceTime will be invaluable to you and hopefully you will be able to go and visit them.

I think good for them - you only live once -if they have or will have health conditions the warm weather will help - however they probably will get homesick after a few months and return to Blighty.
