Inheritance after one of adult children passed away

How would you deal with this case scenario and how would you split inheritance? You and your spouse have two adult children. One adult child passes away, leaving two young children. The other surviving child has one young child. Would you let the surviving child inherit or let grandchildren inherit or how would you split?

Leave the inheritance split between your two children but the half for your deceased child is left in trust for their children to inherit when they reach a responsible age, say 21.

We have left our estate to be divided equally between our three adult children. If any of them decease us, their share goes to any blood children they may have, to go to them when they reach 21. It seems the fairest way and ensures that your money goes to your grandchildren and not to a surviving partner who may remarry and be taken advantage of by a future partner in that your grandchildren will potentially miss out.

Absolutely agree GG. My mum always said that’s exactly what her will said as three of us and six grandchildren. Two each. My H once asked my mum if she didn’t trust him? He was upset about that but when she explained that he could go on a remarry if anything happened to me and then her blood grandchildren may get nothing, he thought it was the perfect solution. Since making our will we have two grand children and are due to change it to do exactly the same.
