Aged 8, she has been learning the piano, her teacher keeps telling me that she is very gifted, composing amazing musical pieces, progressing very fast etc...
I am not musical, cannot even read the notes. How can I help her develop her full potential? She chose her second instrument, the quitar. Signed for the school quire and m-tech and will take individual voice lessons from next term. I wonder if there are some classess for young composers? What else shall I do?, any specialist schools or teachers...? Suggestions and advise please?

I was going to say singing both individually and in a choir, but other than that I think it's up to her music teacher(s). They should ensure she progresses as fast as her talent will allow and they should know of schemes and groups available in your area for the musical. Does she go to a music school for her lessons? They can be an excellent place to be introduced to other aspects of music, such as composing.

It's a shame she's not doing an orchestral instrument though, because playing in an orchestra is a fabulous experience that gets better and better as you progress. Would she consider changing her second instrument?

Agree with castille over the orchestral instrument - loads more opportunities with this.

If you are in or anywhere near London, the Colleges of Music (Royal College, Royal Academy and Trinity) all have Saturday Junior Departments. They are amazing. Ds has thrived (joined when he was 8). Generally I think they look for grade 5 standard, but grades are not essential - they are looking for potential and they really know what they are looking for. Best thing we ever did and I am very grateful to the person who suggested it to me.

It is a whole day of singing, instrument, theory, etc, but they all absolutely love it. I always say to dh that going in there is a bit like visiting Hogwarts - all these amazing kids with their special gifts!
