My 'Ploddy DD' Going Is Going To Uni :)

Just wanted to share some thoughts here. 6 year old DD is on the G&T list which is great and everything. Older DD who was never anything over than an average all the way through school and is a total 'plodder' is off to Uni to study Forensic Psych. What I'm trying to say is this makes me feel thankfully relaxed about the whole G&T thing. When it was first apparent that youngest DD was doing very well at school I kind of got a bit stressed about it as if I should be doing something different or extra but knowing that ploddy dd is off to uni highlights for me how the road to higher education is not about being a whizz at school, but about stickability, and this reality makes me feel rather more relaxed about the whole thing. Sorry if this is all very obvious to most of you, but for me it's a bit of a welcome revelation.

It should read: My 'Ploddy' DD Is Going To Uni.

OMG I can't even type properly.

Oh that's lovely! Stickability is underrated and can be very useful in the working world too

Congrats to your dd (from a fellow plodder-did-well)

have a look at the demos report about what kids need to succeed - stickabiltiy is right up there, high iq i'm not sure is even mentioned

Congrats to her!

Now hold your older DD up as an example to your bright but potentially lazy younger one who, if she's anything like me, will coast all the way through school and have a rather rude awakening. IMO plodders to better - bright children do brilliantly or crash and burn and it's a very fine line.

'plodding' is v. underated imo. Congrats to her.

I'm a "plodder"... eventually got a Law degree and a successful and satisfying career doing nowt to do with Law! IMHO "plodding" is great no stress (well, no more than normal) and no high expectations pressuring me to be someone I'm not. I do what I do, slowly sometimes, but I get it done and that's what counts. Congrats to your DD

I've got a plodding DS2 who is off to university next year. He is very reliable, hard working and gets there in the end, but will never scale the academic heights. His elder brother never did any work unless absolutely necessary but sailed through school and university into a high paid graduate job so has not exactly been a role model for his younger brother.
