Tomorrow Achiever's Masterclass

DS's teacher today gave us some information on Masterclasses held by Tomorrow Achiever and suggested DS might want to go on one or two. Has anyone got any experience of these courses? Are they worth going? Any comments would be appreciated.

Never heard of them.

When mine were at primary G&T year 5/6 had the chance to attend maths & science masterclass at the local private secondary school. Mine could have gone and they were free but they did music and sport all day on Saturday. Friends took their DC along and children really enjoyed themselves having a go with bunsen burners in the labs etc..

I know not all HT took up the offer.Some thought it was a way for school to do a sales pitch to the brightest DC at state primaries. I think it was more a case of school doing it's bit for the community....charitable status.

I teach G and T courses but not the masterclasses. The masterclasses are generall day courses but like all GandT courses an opportunity for children who are GandT to spend time doing subjects they are good at - but more importantly that they enjoy - in a different environment with a different slant - ie more fun hands on etc - than is done at school. School based curriculums don't usually allow for the breadth of investigation that we can do on the courses and also is a good opportunity to meet like minded kids from other schools. A lot of our lot end up going to the same courses as other children and making good friendships. The masterclasses are a good taster for the longer residential courses.

My DCs have been on some Tomorrow's Achievers masterclasses and very much enjoyed them.

You are very lucky that your school is telling you about these! Nice to see a school supporting its more able children.
