'arrrghhh the G&T programme as dictated by government is so not about gifted or talented children but about clever ones'

maybe we could call it 'clever kids'

and then have a 'thick kids' section too

no?

LOL at the "thick kids" section - all MNers DC are "G&T" or SN - there are no average children!!

Piffle · 05/03/2008 14:32

Speak for yourself twiglett. I find the section useful! ;)

Disenchanted · 05/03/2008 14:32

It makes me think all the kids on the thread inside can spin plates and juggle!

lol

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/03/2008 14:33

My friend at school was classed as G&T, she got into oxford then got kicked out in her second year for non attendance,
Us idiots all managed to graduate just fine.

SorenLorensen · 05/03/2008 14:34

Just block it you complaining stick, you.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/03/2008 14:34

But G&T always makes me think of a long tall drink...

IdrisTheDragon · 05/03/2008 14:34

We could have an "average children" section as well .

Oliveoil · 05/03/2008 14:35

can you not just have it on ignore if it bothers so much?

roisin · 05/03/2008 14:36

At our school we're thinking of calling them Advanced Skills Students ... asses

stealthsquiggle · 05/03/2008 14:37

and the predicted rate of threads in each of the 3 would be.....?

Seriously, Twig, I agree G&T is a naff name and a badly implemented programme but the principle of recognising the "special needs" at the top end of the spectrum is sound - so what would you call it?

bobsmum · 05/03/2008 14:39

Scotland doesn't have separate Gifted and Talented classifications because we all are.

Actually I think there should be separate regional education sections, because this is totally irrelevant to at least 5 million of the the population of the UK.

What about NI or Wales - do they have G&T?

Twiglett · 05/03/2008 14:42

but I can't block the section

what would I do when I was bored if I blocked every section that irritated me? eh?

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 05/03/2008 14:45

You can block the topic, dearheart.

Twiglett · 05/03/2008 14:47

I refer my learned friend to my previous post and request that she replaces 'section' with 'topic'

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 05/03/2008 14:48

dont like it- dont read it, you dont need to be Gifted and talented to figure that out

Twiglett · 05/03/2008 14:53

Perhaps one has to be G&T nowadays in order to have a discussion about a contentious subject with a jot of humour and perchance irony?

Beetroot · 05/03/2008 14:55

my g&t boy made a perfect ass of himself in he piano exam today

tortoiseSHELL · 05/03/2008 14:57

I think it should be abolished, and posts about more able children made in the relevant education section (i.e. primary or secondary). The whole G&T thing drives me nuts. The idea that 10% (no more, no less) of EVERY school is G&T in English, in maths, in art, in music is loopy. I've been teaching music for 10 years, and have taught maybe 2 or 3 'gifted' children. The rest are 'able', or sometimes just bright. When there isn't a national benchmark, it is a meaningless label - if a child moves schools they may suddenly become G&T or similarly they may suddenly 'not' be G&T any more. So to say 'my child is G&T' is simply to say 'in my school, my child is currently among the top 10%.'

Makes me irrationally mad!

tortoiseSHELL · 05/03/2008 14:58

what did he do beety? I know someone who in their Grade 8 exam forgot to sit on the middle of the piano stool, and as they reached the top of their first 4 octave scale, fell of the piano stool and landed with a crash on the floor....

tortoiseSHELL · 05/03/2008 14:59

Also, I think often the questions about stretching children in certain areas are of interest to 'non-labelled' children. But there is a bit of a feeling that 'if your child isn't labelled G&T' then you can't post there.

FAQ · 05/03/2008 15:02

PMLS @ falling off the piano stool

(I've nearly done that on an organ stool )

Twiglett · 05/03/2008 15:03
