She seems well ahead of her peers, shes 28 months - if I rattle off a list of things will anyone here be able to cast an eye over it?? or is she too young? you must get hundreds of these... sorry if its not the done thing

mrsmike · 25/02/2008 22:03

well my son is also 28 months so we can compare if you like

posieflump · 25/02/2008 22:04

from the age of 2 don't bother talking about in months, it drives people crazy n here

is she your first?

Lulumama · 25/02/2008 22:05

i think it is probably too early. but list away

someoone posted some sort of checklist a while ago, will try to find it

and does it really matter at 28 months if she is G&T?

Twiglett · 25/02/2008 22:05

g'wan then I could do with a larf

and listen to posie .. she knows what she's talking about

brimfull · 25/02/2008 22:06

and the point would be...?

marmadukescarlet · 25/02/2008 22:07

Is she your first, LOL @ posie (I loved the flumps btw)

28 months is way too early to tell, unless she is doing maths while composing sonatas.

She either will be bright, inwhich case as long as you keep her happy, she'll do anyway.

Or she will level out, and you'll stress.

Relax, enjoy her, and let things unfold as they will

Twiglett · 25/02/2008 22:09

just doing maths or just composing sonatas at 2.6 is not good enough for G&T you know

it has to be both

at the same time

Blandmum · 25/02/2008 22:10

get with the project Twigg, I made that clear!

my cunning use of the word 'while'

Lulumama · 25/02/2008 22:11

cannot find the list. and i agree with MBs last post

we all like to think our DCs are incredibly bright, special and talented in their own unique way. which they all are! but they don;t need labels at 2.

could not find the checklist , sorry!

Twiglett · 25/02/2008 22:13

I know MB .. I was just expanding the point in case it got lost

she sounds lovely! very bright and like she has a good memory and an artistic streak.... just enjoy her don;t know if she is G&T< but at this age, i think it is totally meaningless, in the nicest possible way

padboz · 25/02/2008 22:30

I'm (as usual) more interested in me I'm interested to know if I have any perspective whatsoever when it comes to my FABULOUS children

OP posts:
padboz · 25/02/2008 22:32

oh, and shes not actually stabbing at anyone ...

I think the thing is in these situations it's really difficult to remember what your dc was/wasn't doing at 28m if they are now older! (As mine is)

Agree with the other posters, what is the point of thinking about this at the mo?

I'm trying to remember dd1 at this age... she was definitely verbal in the way you describe. Numbers? CAn't remember. Songs? Yes.

But I would tend to think of G&T as more than just advanced speech or drawing ability, IYKWIM. More like complicated mathematics, piano recitals, chess skill...

Can you tell I have no idea what I'm talking about?

She does sound like shes picking up these things early and she sounds lovely, but these are no indications really of future talents as notnow says, these are not exceptional functions, just early i think. now she may well be g&t but may well be bright and 'within normal range' just enjoy her and keep providing opportunities for learning.

padboz · 25/02/2008 22:46

chess? eeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrm... nope. should have lurked a bit, eh?. School girl error padboz, school girl error. Feel free to turn back to your recitals ladies!

OP posts:
mrsmike · 25/02/2008 22:48

OK, potty - no interest when I weakly suggest using it. Drawing - just manic scribbles. Colouring in - no chance. But can recite 1 to 12 though no understanding of what it means - well he knows what 2 of the same is, and maybe 3. Talks - quite good, but 6 word sentences probably max. Knows quite a lot of songs, all the words, as I think they do a lot of that at nursery. Square roots? Err no. So your little girl sounds much more advanced! I used to think ds1 was really talented and now we are talking about gcse resits
Not meaning to burst your bubble by that comment padboz, she sounds lovely

ConniJ · 25/02/2008 22:50

Hi Padboz,
I have two girls, one is 3 in June, youngest, the eldest is 6 in July.
Bi, my oldest was very similar to your child in that songs, counting, colouring, drawing and especially talking were very very advanced compared to children the same age. She also had very good social skills. This darling has gone on to be the top of her class in Transition (Prep/Kindergarten) Year before grade 1. And is working at the level of a grade 2 or 3 in things like reading and writing. She also still has amazing social skills.
My number 2, Mol, is showing all of the same signs, and I can tick off against your list very easily. Unlike her sister, she is also very kinaesthetic, in that she dances when music comes on and doesn't realise she is doing it. She jumps and balances amazingly.

The difference between the two is my attitude. I know that Bi (5.5yo) has done well with attention and love and I will keep going with both of them the way I have in the past. I push them to try new things, but never force them to do something they dont enjoy more than once. This has worked for me and they are both turning out well.

As others have said, just enjoy her at 2 because trust me, she will grow up soon and you will wish she was two again. Like I did today when my 5 year old screamed in my face that she didn't know what to tidy up!

I hope this helps, I know how hard it can be to find information on these subjects, even when they are doing well academically at an older age.

Enough said!

ConniJ

She does sound lovely! And as bright as a button, too
