help needed with G+T 3 yearold

I rarely post on this topic as it seems to cause so much derision, but my nearly 3 year old dd ( who is G+T) is driving me bonkers, I struggle to answer her incessant questions , particularly as I have never wanted to fob my children off with fantasy answers, e.g. why do flowers bloom mummy..( recent question) easy answer would have been "the fairies make it happen" , does anyone know of a children's encyclopedia type book I could use which would help me with sensible but child friendly answers. I am reasonably intelligent ( as is DH) but why do flowers bloom and how does the sky stay up have got me stumped as to how to explain them.

My DD (nearly 2.5yrs) loves the DK EyeWonder books. They are ok for her to read by herself. She also likes her Usbourne 'pocket' encyclopedia...this though is a bit hard for her to read on her own and requires me to help.

Mummydoc - your daughter does sound gifted.

What on earth are you going to do when she gets to school? She'll be bored rigid in reception surely?

why not teach her the phrase " google it"

then you are preparing her for researching things! and its fun to do together. also will help her learn to be pc literate and type quicker!

Totally agree with the advice about teaching someone to research and discover stuff as independently as possible. Also, if in doubt 'What do YOU think?' is a good answer. You might hear some pretty interesting responses!

Don't have much to add but wanted to be supportive mummydoc. Your dd sounds very bright indeed, and I agree that beginning to show her how to use simple reference books is a v. good idea - she could choose some at the public library perhaps? Any ideas what you're going to do at the nursery level? you're going to have some challenges by the sound of it.
