DD's (in year 3) school thought she had high functioning autism so got the ed psych in to have a look at her. She's come out 99th centile on the Bas3 test, but it says she has asynchronous development and is emotionally immature. Although it also says she will benefit from spending time with older children as she will struggle to be patient with people her own age. The ed psych has recommended that the schools meets with me to discuss how to support her.

My question is that the school has a reputation for being very poor with more able students - its been flagged up repeatedly bu ofsted. Can anyone recommend what I should be saying when I go in please?

Well I'm not getting a meeting til Sept now as they want the new teacher to be part of it. I was recommended the ppuk assessment but it's so much money! I suppose I'll see what they say. Just want DD to be happy...

It’s slow but it’s action at least. Still, September should give you lots of time to research giftedness to get a good idea how to direct things.

Hi OP. A few things spring to mind. 1) An EP is not qualified to diagnose ASC and I’ve heard of lots of instances where they sit on the fence and cause more confusion than anything else. 2) if it were me I’d use the EP report to advocate for enrichment and then see if that helps sufficiently. It may take a few tries to get things right so maybe ask to set up review meetings for each term in advance? Should help to keep them focussed. For example could your DD go up a class during maths lesson only in the first instance to see how things go? 3) You can ask the EP to clarify or make small changes to the report if you feel the school will need very clear guidance. Call them up to discuss and hopefully a clearer report will be available by the time of your meeting. 3) If the school suspect ASC then your DD should be on the SEN Register and have an IEP or provision map or similar. This should describe what support s in place and you should review it with the school termly. 4) diagnosis of girls on the spectrum is very specialist and lots of local CAMHS have only emerging skills in the field. The EP and online lists may focus on the features of boys and may not be appropriate for girls. As the pathway takes a long time do stick with it. Miles better to do it and rule it out before secondary transition than to have everything go to pot at that point. Best of luck

If it is ASC she’ll be a couple of years behind socially and emotionally so moving ahead a year could exacerbate things. Try enrichment first and then consider options on year group later.
