Have I ever mentioned our wonderful school? [wink]

At parents' evening tonight both boys' teachers said things like:

"I need to continue to make sure he is stretched and stimulated, especially this final term of the year."
"The project work enables him to take things to a higher level, and I encourage him in this."
"He was starting to coast a bit, so I have pushed him to make sure he stays motivated."
"Do you have any suggestions of things you do at home to challenge him?"

We never ever mention G&T or brightness or similar. It all comes from the teachers, and they are keen to do as much as they can!

She's telling us this because she has 2 very bright boys, she is thrilled with the way their state primary school is providing for them, and she wanted to share.

What's your problem, Chattea?

Beetrootccio · 27/03/2007 21:05

roisen - how wonderful to have such a parent/teacher alliance - fabulous and very jelous

Chattea · 27/03/2007 21:11

My problem is that I am INSANELY jealous.

roisin · 27/03/2007 21:12

Thanks all

The home electronics is going scarily well: ds2 is fantastic with his soldering iron now. I always sit with him when he's doing it, but really just because I'd be extremely embarrassed if he injured himself with it and I had to admit at A&E that he was unsupervised, rather than because he in any way needs to be supervised!
I'm looking out now for a beginners' electronics course for him to do, that will help him to understand the electronics, and build things up himself, rather than just assembling kits.

PS Chattea - On here teachers and education quite often get a bit of a bashing; so I like to post a positive story from time to time.
.. and make everyone hideously jealous too

Roisin it's fantastic to hear that the teachers are taking such an interest and willing them on in the way that they are. My dd is only in reception and already the teachers have picked up on her and make a definate effort to keep her stretched. It really feels good when someone else sees it in them and is keen to bring out the best in them doesn't it?

That's fantastic.

How old is your DS2 doing electronics? I remember using a soldering iron as a child and I bet my dad would love to get DD doing it - they already sit and play cribbage together (just like I used to with his dad, my grandad!) and grandad also taught me some woodwork skills. Sadly DH not into any of this stuff so it needs to go grandfather-granddaughter.

I'm sorry. This week I've had a frankly awful
experience with the kids' school and I didn't even see that your message was in the G&T section. Please accept my apologies Roisin

roisin · 27/03/2007 23:04

SueW - ds2 is almost 8. We spent a fantastic time last year at the Edinburgh Science Festival, which got him hooked; and he got the soldering iron for his 7th birthday.

My dad always had a very close relationship with ds2, and I always assumed he would do things like this with his grandpa; but unfortunately he died 6 months ago. So I have to try and fill that gap.

Chattea - no worries

roisin, I want to move to your school

willywonkasEgghunt · 31/03/2007 22:51

roisin - dc's school sounds fantastic, no wonder you so pleased . (Realise that it's not quite the same but am I allowed to be proud of the fact that my Mum is a whizz with a soldering iron?)

Bink · 01/04/2007 21:05

Congratulations!
Lovely school, lovely boys!!
