I home eductae now because my dd is very bright, but how do you find out a childs IQ? Is there an online test? Do schools offer one?
Just out of interest really.

Xtina ? sorry, I misread the ?other adults? bit. I have no problem with light banter at the expense of DH.

BUT I have huge problems with cod. why do you feel it necessary to constantly jump in and try to wreck these threads. as has been said: it is really, really nasty. please leave us in peace.

What are you going to do when you have measured your dd and she comes out with a number? Are you going to 1. tell her that she is cleverer than x percent of the population so that she can feel smug 2. keep the number to yourself so that you can feel smug 3. realise that IQ tests are pointless constructs which were only invented for points 1 and 2.

Bright children do not need measuring and testing to do well IMO. Although I do think it is fine to feel quietly smug about your child. I think mine are practically perfect in every way (although they are not formally G&T).

runnerbean, please ignore the stirrers.

An IQ test is a tool, and just one among many - and you need as many tools as you can get hold of to help you decide how to manage a bright child.

So don't use an online test, or any resource that is solely IQ-test focussed. Yes, an online test will give you a number, but even if it's reliable (which is a doubt in itself) it will not give you any answers or any directions, and in time the number will just come to be an annoying puzzle hanging in the air.

I agree with those who've said what you should do is have a proper 360-degree assessment of your daughter's abilities, learning style, strengths and weaknesses. Then you can actually use it.
