Is there a G&T equivalent in Scotland?

Just wondering. Although ds is still only 4 and at nursery, they have flagged up concerns that he's bored and stifled (their words) and may be "cognitively and musically gifted".

I've posted on this before, because, possibly as a result his behaviour isn't all that great in some circumstances.

When he starts school next August, are there any provisions in Scottish schools for children someone like my ds who will need constant pushing to prevent him spontaneously combusting in a classroom?

guess not then? It's cos we're all gifted and talented up here by default

It depends on the EA and the school. If/when the school is told about his ability it will be up to the Learning Support Co-ordinator to ensure that he gets everything that he needs to stretch and develop him. If he's really good then possibly the school could put him into the Primary 2 class for certain subjects where he is obviously way ahead of the others in Primary1. For the rest of the time he would be in P1 so that he deveops socially with the others of his age.

Oh and BTW we are all gifted and talented up here.

Wooooooooo Woooooooooooo Woooooooooooooooooooo

bobsmum · 16/12/2006 16:53

THe classes in his primary are composite with P1-3 in the same room. His academic ability is way ahead, but his behaviour is way behind. hOpefully a teeny school should help?

Yeh that should be good for him. He'll be able to easily fit into whichever group meets his needs and at the same time have his friends around all the time too.

I used to be MoreTeaAnyone, bobsmum. I was planning on visiting you over the next few days. Having seen your other thread I'll bring my boat!

bobsmum · 16/12/2006 16:57

Aha! Did you ever get an email from me? It kept getting bounced back - probably because you are so otherworldly

My sister had trouble with one of my email addresses too.

Did I give you [email protected]?

bobsmum · 16/12/2006 17:01

Yup - that's the one.

I got one email that I replied to. Did you get it? I was worried that after I told you my name that maybe you remembered me from school and that was more than enough

bobsmum · 16/12/2006 17:27

Found it! No I don't know you - different primary/secondary school - that one with the blue blazer and kilt in Ledcameroch Road

Come and see us when the floods disappear - t'would be grand!

Bobsmum, my dds went to our local Scottish village school of about 30 children (though dd1 is now at uni and dd2 is at an international school as we live abroad these days) and each child is taught to their ability, not their age. They also happily bump children up/down a year as suits their educational requirements, it's much more flexible than the 600+ alternative we have.
