How long does your g & T child sleep every night?

I read on something that one of the characteristic of G & T child is sleep less hours than normal kids.
I know it doesn't apply to all the gifted children, but it does certainly apply to my ds.

I calculated if child slept 3 hours less than normal child everyday, 3 X 7 = 21, 21 x 4 = 84, 84 x 12 = 1008 hours a year. 1008/ 24 = 42 days.
So in 8 years, 42 x 8 = 336. That means in about 8 years time, the child who sleeps 3 hours less than normal child had 1 year of extra wake time.
I started think it's no wonder they are advanced.

But at the same time, I worry, does this have some impact on their growth?

My ds sleeps about 7~ 8 hours every night, and he is never tired. How long does your child sleep? Does anybody has info about consequences of sleeping shorter time as a child?

DD has pretty much always slept well, but she never needed more than about eight hours. I used to put her to bed at 8 and she would be up and reading at 5am. Now she is 10 she has a later bedtime of up until 10.30pm and she wakes up at 7am. She isn't easy to get out of bed though!

DS fought sleep until he was 3.5, but now he is 6 he is just a light sleeper and an early riser. He is happy to read when he gets up at 5.30 for an hour or so which makes it bearable.

Both are incredibly healthy and amongst the tallest in their class. DD excelled in the 11+ recently.

I don't think there's a link at all, it's the same with everyone, we all need differing amounts of sleep.

DS(4) has almost broken me with his lack of sleep, he gave up naps at 13 months and never slept as long as his peers. He now knows that he is to read until 6am when he can wake me (unless there's a problem obviously). He goes to bed at 7:30pm and starts waking from about midnight, he can be up 6 times in the night and no one knows why. I am an incredibly light sleeper and have periods of insomnia so maybe that's why?

I'm looking forward to the teenage years when I have to drag him out of bed Grin
