NAGTY Courses

Does anyone have any experience of the courses offered thru' NAGTY. I don't want to encourage ds to look at the options, if he's going to be bored to death by them. I have to say, I think some of them look really good!

The courses are offered through NAGTY but are not run by them, they subcontract out. Thus you cannot comment on ?the typical NAGTY course? because there is no such thing. However, most people have positive experiences. My DD has enjoyed them throughout Years 8, 9 & 10. If in doubt, contact the course-provider directly as they are usually helpful (in fact, more helpful than NAGTY).

The one-day courses (called Outreach) are usually for smallish numbers. He shouldn?t be bored as they normally get the students actively involved in group-work. If you think that it might be a problem, don?t go for a subject that he already knows something about- go for a brand new topic!

There is another variety of one-off events called the 'Experts in Action' series. These are for large numbers (in the hundreds) and are like a University lecture. They are very good and, even better, they are free.

Thanks for that wychbold. Some of the Outreach courses look really interesting. I hadn't spotted any 'Experts in Action', so I'll have a little look.

I hadn't spotted any 'Experts in Action', so I'll have a little look.

On closer inspection, there aren't many at the moment! For an example though, we are registered for the next (now fully booked) one . If you look on the Outreach Events listings page you will find, in the 'Event (click for info)' column an orange header for the EIA lectures.

Correction then - I hadn't spotted the orange headers! Thanks for that.

Ds is at school on Saturdays, which really limits the courses he is free to attend. Some of the residential ones look good - I'll have to talk to him.

Thanks for your help!

Ds is at school on Saturdays

This is what made me think that they may be at the same school.

The NAGC carry a list of organisations (for members) that offer summer schools and enrichment programmes for gifted and talented/high ability pupils and young people. If anyone would like to contact me I will be happy to help. Helpline: 0845 450 0221. We also offer Explorers Clubs throughout the UK offering challenging activities and discussion groups for parents.
