Book suggestions for avid reader age 8

My 8 year old dd, in year 4, is an extremely avid reader, she's just been assessed at school as being level 5a (not sure why as I thought levels weren't going to be used anymore), which I assume is about 4-5 years ahead. I need ideas for books for her that will keep her interest but not be to old in content, any suggestions would be appreciated.

My favourite for this age group is Penelope lively's "seduction of Thomas Kempe" - a terrific book about a young boy whose parents move into an old cottage and accidentally unseal the poltergeist of a bad tempered and unpredictable apothecary when putting in a new window in his bedroom.
Also amazing is the Various trilogy by Steve augarde, especially volume 1, about tribes of knee high fairies who live in a modern day wood. Really powered my children's' imagination.
Frozen in time is a simpler read but also a great narrative tale. I love this one.
There are so many - I loved this time!

Also - all the "old stuff" on this thread and nobody has mentioned the brilliant David walliams. All his books are perfect reads for age 8. Very funny.

Colin Dann's 'The animals of Farthing Wood' books were favourites of mine at around that age. I cant wait for my DD to get into them.

There's a similar thread (or three) back on the Primary Education thread. I asked a similar question for my Y1 daughter but the answers for her might not be appropriate due to the age difference. I also answered a thread for an older boy quite recently.

Other people here have given you a lot of fiction, have you thought of non fiction? That way you avoid some of the concerns about appropriateness. What is she interested in? My DD loves space so we have books about the planets and even things like Prof. Brian Cox's Wonders of the Solar System and Commander Chris Hadfield's autobiography.

We do read them all first. I now sympathise with my parents who did the same for me... I suspect that by the time she's 11/12 it's going to be a full time job.
