Grade skipping?

DS has just turned 4yrs old (September) due to start school in September 2015.
He was assessed by an Educational Psychologist two weeks ago.
DS tested at 99.9 percentile for 6yr olds in maths, reading, comprehension & spelling.
Her advice was to seek early entry or skipping reception.
We hope to send him to a small prep school.
Does anyone have experience of grade skipping?
Many thanks

Hope he enjoys school and that his social and physical skills are also attended to so he has a well rounded life. There is such a danger for the extremely intellectual that their emotional health and happiness can be neglected and I hope the school supports him in ALL the right ways.

I think you will find that for a September-born child acceleration makes almost no difference in the longer term :) We live abroad in a country where grade skipping is somewhat more common than in the UK - both mine are a year ahead of their peers. My older child is quite a lot younger than her classmates (summer birthday) but she's mature for her age both physically and socially and it has never been an issue. My son's birthday falls just after the cut-off so he's barely younger than his classmates; he's a bit immature but no more so than other boys in his class. They are both in secondary school now and I doubt most of their teachers even realise that there is an age difference.

Good luck to your son :)
