Who spotted that your child was G&T ?

My eldest has been told by her tutor that she should be on the G&T register but the school she has been at have never mentioned it.

I don't want to bring the subject up if they haven't spotted it, i'd rather just support her at home but equally the school have commented that she doesn't finish her work and when i have asked her why not she says she's bored.

Any thoughts on the next step and how to approach this would be gratefully received.

G&T provision is very variable between schools, AngelaChill. If your daughter's school doesn't do very much for those on the register then there's little point in getting your daughter on it. I would try to sort out the not finishing work issue though. I'd tell your daughter she just has to do the work, boring or not, but at the same time have a word with the teacher about giving her some more suitable work.

How old is your dd AC?
FWIW I think at primary level the G+T provision is pretty erratic throughout the country.
Some schools are excellent, some are woeful.
What is your dd being tutored in? Is this your dd's best subject, if so then finding activites yourself that bring out the skills for that subject can be rewarding too.

DS2 & DS3 came home from school with a letter each saying that they had been identified as G & T and put forward for NAGTY. There was a list of the criteria -ie getting high CAT scores, level 8 at KS3, x number of A* grades at GCSE.
There wasn't anything like this when DS1 was 11, but a teacher encouraged him to join MENSA.

not much experience except via a school governing body, but surely it would be worth getting her on the register whatever the school is like? there should be a discussion at the governing body at least once a year about priorities for the next year, someone might easily suggest that provision for the g&t register shoudl be a priority (you could write to a gov and suggest it, even) and it would surely help if the govs know that the register is long? otherwise they could just say 'oh, there's no children registered as g&t here, it's not really an appropriate priority for the school at this time' and bang goes any chance of changing things.

if your school likes awards (our headteacher LOVES them partly because they often bring a chunk of money in their wake) why not suggest your school has a go for the Challenge Award .

She has only began year 2 this week, we got her a tutor because we were concerned that her maths wasn't brilliant but the lady works on English, relaxation techniques, exam preparation all sorts, she wrote a book called successful learning and it is fantastic, Hilary Letts and Jean Robb www.santa.inuk.com/successful.htm

I feel that DD gets a lot out of their sessions so have increased them to twice a week, I think that's probably enough for now anyway I guess I'm just surprised the school didn't mention it first IYSWIM.

My dd was identified for literacy in Yr1, going into yr2 of infants school. This was then completely ingnored in junior school. Sheleft junior school with 5a's in all her sats. Now at secondary in Yr9, we have been sent a letter saying she hads been recognised as G&T and they will be calling us in to discuss. She has taken her KS3 SATs in yr8 and is now starting GCSE English Lit and statistics to be completed this year. What made me laugh was the questionnaire the school sent us with the letter. It had questions like, 'what do you consider your daughter's gift/talents to be?' and 'what is your occupation?'. I said I didn't think she was gifted, just a bright kid with a desire to do her best and not get into trouble!! And I took pleasure in telling them my occupation is a SAHM! Stick that in their socio-economic profile!!!

DS2 was flagged as possibly G&T in the second term of Reception, ("I really think he is gifted" from the teacher), but I don't think the school really does anything special at this age other than watch and see how they develop. He may well not seem so advanced this year.
