dd just got a music scholarship

so proud that i am busting . that's it really. can't mention it anywhere else (here or in rl) as i think it looks like i am showing off. i am not showing off, i am just so proud and excited for her. that's it really. so very proud as it is a really lovely school. we will be broke for 7 years (even though it was a good scholarship %) but hey! who cares

thanks chaps. time to be really honest no she didn't. she didn't do any more work than she normally would which is roughly 1/2 hr a day. we were told that in order to stand any chance of getting one you had to learn pieces to play (in the audition) that were above your actual level (ie if you were on gr6 you should learn a gr8 piece) & that you need to have played for a few years (roughly) in an orchestra however dd doesn't play in orchestras other than her school one/has never performed outside of her school (which was apparently another requirement) and played gr5 pieces. it depends on what the school in question is looking for i guess. she can sing too, has a right pair of lungs on her (she asked if she could sing/play piano for the auditions), i think that may have helped . i wish i could sing..

Oh congratulations. What is her instrument?

It's a seriously fab experience to get specialised lessons in music and most kids who are good at music do well academically despite spending more time on music and less on "studies".

thank you :) she plays violin and piano. she always wanted to play these two instruments so it wouldn't have made any difference to us but if someone wanted to specifically try and get their dc a music scholarship, knowing what i know now, i would recommend your child learning a more obscure instrument, something that the other children are less likely to play. it would make your child stand out and appear more appealing to the school.....some schools anyway.

Congratulations, that is fantastic. I know how you feel as DS1 has a good % academic scholarship but I haven't been able to tell people as yet. Well done to your DD.
