My 3 year old 3 month son(pre schooler) read & write all alphabets (upper & lower case) & count up to 25 & write numbers up to 60.He read & write three letter words like cat, ball, dog, ant, bat , mop, rat from his memory. He sings national athem & above 10 nursery rhymes may be more.He knows simple G.K about our nation, currency, father of nation, about animals etc.He speeks about sun, moon, stars etc. he knows colors & shapes. He identified alphabets in his 1y & 2 months & read completely in his 1y & 6months.Is he gifted?

ZanyMobster, yes then, I have been taking the "taught himself/herself to read" too literally. I thought it was rather odd; all these children managing to figure out reading, all by themselves, with no other input.

Ds1 taught himself to read with only minimal input from us (as in if he asked us want a word was we would tell him). He was assessed as reading at 14+ when he started reception. He is extremely clever and remembers everything but although school say he is gifted I am not sure is truly is, extremely bright, intelligent and inquisitive yes but truely gifted am an not sure. I think the term gifted is used too much, to me gifted is a child who can comprehend and use the laws of physics, debate the use of language etc etc rather than a child who learns things a bit earlier than thier peers.
I too was a 'gifeted' child, put up a year and joined Mensa age 12, but all it really did was make me think I didn't need to bother trying and as an adult there are plenty of people more intelligent than me

We are all jealous of you
My children think the sun is a newspaper

He sounds very bright, possibly gifted. My DD is fairly bright but couldn't do that (although tbh, we haven't tried or attempted anything like that, no educational youtube videos etc; but even so, I doubt it) and is a bit older.

Ammumohan, I do not know if he is gifted, but he is certainly ahead of his peers. It sounds as though both you and his nanny care about his education and that both of you are gifted at teaching him.

I would not worry whether or not he is gifted if he continues to do so well. At the end of the day, all that he will be tested on academically will be his ability, not how that ability came about.

I think that you need to define what you mean by gifted for anyone to be able to say whether your son is gifted. If you are talking about whether your son is in the top 5%, then your son sounds like he might be in that group. If you mean "is he the type of genius most people meet only once or twice in a lifetime?" then it just isn't possible to say.

Time will tell. Just keep up the good work!

My son could count to 100 when he was 2 and to 10 in 5 different languages. He was like a sponge for remembering things! I was a young single mum and had never even heard of Gifted and Talented, I just knew he was very bright so I did lots of extra work with him!

He is still little, and does sound very bright! Sounds like you have a fab childminder too.
