ICP experiences?

I have a yr 4 dd and we have just had a short chat (somewhat vagu), about an ICP (individual challenge plan) for her. Last year, this consisted of a project topic to do at home that dd never did - because actually dd hates HW and was just not interested in this at all!

This yr it doesn't seem to actually amount to anything of any substance at all and I'm wondering if I could ring any use out of the idea. I'm not looking for more HW - she does tons of different non-school subject stuff. I'm really trying to pin down how this can work in class.

Anyone else had an ICP or some kind of actual 'plan' for their child? What did it consist of? Did you have measurable objectives etc - like SMARTs?There's very little on the net but I did read that an ICP should have the same format as an IEP - which surprised me. I definitely feel we are getting a token gesture but since it was offered, I'd like to explore what we could get from it.

DD has an IEP that stipulates that she has to have work differentiated from the top group in maths, and that she reads with the year above.

There should be measurable objectives so you know if the targets are met, with regular (once a term?) reviews.

You are quite right that differentiation should not be in the form of extra work - either at school or at home, but it should be the correct work.

That's interesting, thanks. Do you have measurable objectives for review?

She does, but I can't remember them or find the document

Oh I don't expect you tell me what they are - I'm just interested in the idea of having real objectives!

DS has them in an IEP - things like "by the end of this term he will be reading stage X reading books", or "he will be using adverbs in his writing" or whatever, it writes down how it will be achieved e.g. being taught with group X in class Y and who will help him achieve it - teacher, TA etc.
