5c in year 5

Dd has just had some assessments done in year 5. She came out at 5c in one subject.
Is this within normal top set range or should she be offered extension work. I don't want her to get bored.
Thank you

I think that is normal in the top set. DS1 had 5C midway through y5. He was on track to achieve 5a towards end of y6, but he sat L6 SATS in Y6. Most of Y6 was just repetition for most of the class, and L6 work for the top set. This was maths. His other subjects were 5s.

This is maths too.

You'd hope that any school would cater for every child, regardless of levels. 5c maths doesn't sound out of the ordinary tbh, normal top set.

That is reassuring. Thank you

My dd is 5c in maths too, target 5a by end of year. She is in top set, in the middle of the class, she thinks. Her teacher differentiates work for all members of the class, and that should happen in your dc's school too. Do you gave a parents' evening coming up? You could ask then.

I teach Y3, I have one pupil I predict to be a 4b in maths this year and one a 4b in reading and writing. They'll be given targets of 5c for Y4! I teach in a high attainer school and all the 'top' set children will be expected to get 5c in Y5. So don't I think your DC is well-above average, but not exceptionally. Sorry if I sound harsh, but in 20 years of teaching I would say I have taught 5 truly gifted children. However, I've taught many, many, many bright and academic children.

Whoops! attaining not attainer

She is bright, but school should be able to manage fine. DS1 and two classmates were 5c in september year 5. School are a bit vague with levels, but his last assessment a few weeks ago was 91% on the level 5 paper, so think he's progressed since then (his homework certainly seems more solid, iyswim).

He is covering the level 6 stuff now, and is also doing some sideways stretching stuff which he enjoys too.

Also, your school will have to keep her progressing as progress is more important than attainment, so they won't be able to let her coast.

My dd is also 5c in year 5. I'd say she was quite bright but not G&T but then I would ask her teacher.
