So proud need to boast can't in RL

The last week has been so fantastic for us with our year 4 summer born (mid June) DS.

We got his report a week ago 3 sub-sections in attainment: Higher than expected for age, working within level for age and lower than expected for age. He got all higher than expected for age.

Effort is also 3 sub-sections: Makes an effort all the time, makes an effort most of the time, could make a greater effort. He got makes an effort all the time.

We then went to Kip Mcgrath to have an assessment to see where we needed to go in regards to tutoring (in a highly selective grammar area) and was told that if she didn't have his age down then she would have thought him to be at least a year 5 child. And she wasn't after my custom or money as she suggested that he would only need a term before 11+ exams tutoring if that!

Then today after school his teacher approaches me in the playground to make sure it is ok that he goes on the school gifted and talented list. Wow fantastic. He is currently working on a absolute 4a/5c level.

I am so so proud of him and really want to tell everyone, but ofcourse can't because it will be seen as boasting and crass. But needed to shout somewhere so I have here

It's lovely when they are really motivated.

I'd rather have a child who is motivated than bright, as you can't make a child be motivated.

But when they are both it can make some things easier.

Ds2 is similar to your ds, however he gets really frustrated when he can't do something, as most of the time things come easily to him. He then says he is stupid to not be able to do whatever it is he is trying to do. (He is 11 and achieved level 6 for maths, and 5 for English)

We try to praise the effort put in, rather than the achievement.

What will putting him on an arbitrary list change re: the expectations for year 5 and his targets? Genuine question, if he is getting grades like that at the end of year 4 (just to add dd2 is also) he clearly has been given extension work and tbh I don't see the point of a 'list' when schools are clearly teaching to a high standard already.

Great result. Hope he was chuffed to bits with his report.

Iamnotminterested I don't think him being on a "list" will make all that much difference. It just vindicates what we know already I suppose.

Iseenodust yes he is very proud of himself. Though thank goodness he has humility as well
