My elder 2 are 19/16. We have just been on a week long music course . THey are both well post grade8/diploma standard recorder players.

They played a trio sonata in the concert (a duet with harpsichord and and a bass instrument if you don't know) and it was amazing Smile

They only had 4x 90min sessions to prepare it in, and it's the first time they've really played together (it's taken them a while to mature into the realization that they are both equally competent, and can take direction from each other if needed) .

The eye contact and electric communication was stunning. THey just knew how each other was going to deal with a phrase. THe sibling link was clear.

(and no, not at music school, nor doing music at undergrad level either! )

That's lovely! Recorder is much underrated I think. maybe there will be a revival after the Young Musician of the Year competition.

Well done to your dc Grin

gladders · 06/08/2012 12:01

sorry - age 19, am not overly impressed by that - I mean, it's lovely but really not impressive. Why post in G&T?

TantrumsAndOlympicGoldBalloons · 06/08/2012 12:04

Because she was proud of her talented children?

No need to be nasty.

to play any instrument at grade 8/diploma level is something to be proud of! it sounds lovely op, well done to your dc's :)

captainhastings · 06/08/2012 12:21

What a mean post gladders, I would be proud too.

gladders · 06/08/2012 12:24

Am confused. She has 2 grown up children who can play recorders very well - why post on G&T? OK to be proud - slightly odd to post on Mumsnet about it IMO.

thisisyesterday · 06/08/2012 12:26

really gladders? excelling at a musical instrument doesn't count if you're 19? what a strange world you must live in

how lovely for you OP, you must be proud of them and I bet they're really pleased too :)

Congratulations: I think that's lovely. And it's great to be proud of your children.

KatyMac · 06/08/2012 12:41

Be proud - I'm always proud of my DD

It's good for them & for you

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 06/08/2012 12:41

Congratulations to you and them, I think it's lovely and you're right to be proud of them regardless of their ages.

chipmonkey · 06/08/2012 12:56

Absolutely, gladders. I'd say Mozart's Dad probably stopped being proud once he hit 19. Hmm

Theas of course you should be proud of your dc's! Well done to them!

KatyMac · 06/08/2012 12:58

How lovely that the communicate so well together as well; it's takes the playing to the next level

gladders · 06/08/2012 14:00

ah -but Mozart was something to be proud of.

this is a 19 year old young adult. who can play the recorder.

and whose mother is boasting about it on a public forum.

5madthings · 06/08/2012 14:04

its not just playing the recorder its playing it at grade 8/diploma level, which is something to be proud of, do you play an instrument gladders? and so what if its 'boasting' on a public forum, hell we all do it, what is wrong with being proud of your children?!

shockers · 06/08/2012 14:35

How mean spirited gladders!

Well done to your two Thea, I'd be proud too.

gladders · 06/08/2012 14:42

yes I do actually - grade 8 piano and recorder - both passed before I was 12.

thisisyesterday · 06/08/2012 14:46

just out of interest, what do you get out of being unkind to people?

i mean, you could have just ignored the post. but instead you chose to, very deliberately, say something designed to upset the OP.

just wondering why that would be...

gladders · 06/08/2012 15:49

am not trying to upset anyone - just puzzled as to why anyone would need to make the post she did about her grown up children to a bunch of strangers on here.

It makes no sense to post on this forum.

gladders · 06/08/2012 15:50

and why is everyone getting so protective about OP - she doesn't seem bothered?

WanderingOkapi · 06/08/2012 15:58

Op that's fantastic, there is no cut off point for being proud of your dc when they do something really really well. How lovely to see and hear evidence of that bond between them. Really special, enjoy. It's really good to hear positivity and pride. Smile

chipmonkey · 06/08/2012 22:41

Of course, gladders, not trying to upset anyone.....
But clearly couldn't give a rat's ass if you do upset someone.

Wafflenose · 07/08/2012 20:39

I haven't posted in G&T for many months, because it's quite frankly scary at times. People can be very mean.

But I did want to say congratulations to your very talented children! It sounds like a wonderful concert, and I wish I could have taken my DD1 as she is a recorder player (6 years old and Grade 3, so doing well, but not about to set any records!) and I think it would have really inspired her. I hope your sons feel a great sense of achievement and will play more together in the future.

morethanpotatoprints · 14/08/2012 11:11

Well done to your dcs. Music is a wonderful talent to possess.
I hope I am as proud as you if my dd gets that far.

Gladders "I am not trying to upset anyone - just puzzled as to why anyone would need to make the post she did about her grown up children to a bunch of strangers on here.

Neither does contributing when you clearly have nothing intersting to say Gladders
