DD (6) now Yr 1 has been in literacy & numeracy g&t classes (weekly) since reception.
But the teacher who does them is leaving.
My Q is do schools 'have to' offer such extension lessons?

they should be challenging children appropriate to their level

some schools do this with a seperate session, others differentiate within the class

either can be sucessful and my dcs have experience of both

have you asked the school what the plan is for next year?

Mrschristiangray · 11/07/2012 17:10

Instead of asking the school I came straight to mumsnet!!
I know the class teacher will differentiate in class have seen this in families into class sessions, but I'm not sure if school HAVE to g and T classes.
I don't think so though.

No, our school don't identify children as G and T full stop.

TimeChild · 12/07/2012 21:13

Same with my dc's school

Sittinginthesun · 13/07/2012 17:31

No, but our school will extend and adapt classes where appropriate in each case. My DS1's class is exceptionally high achieving, and the top group have always covered extension work way ahead of their age. If your school is aware of which children need the extension work, I would imagine they are already planning for next year.
