We are moving back to England from Canada, probably to Streatham. DS is gifted. Don't know the system in the UK. If I want him to go to a particular school because it has a gifted program (eg Dunraven) then what evidence to I have to provide? Will an educational assessment done when he was 11 work?

It's down to schools to identify their g+t pupils. And over a number of areas not just academic studies if they so wish. If you're in touch with schools ask them how they would support your dc and how they would assess and in what areas.

He has been assessed here in Canada - so does that mean DS has to go through the whole process again in the UK? Poor sod, last time it was hours and hours of testing!

It doesn't tend to be so formal as that.

Hi, you could get in touch with the NAGC .

Not many schools in the UK have 'Gifted Programs', but they are all recommended to identify pupils who are 'Gifted and Talented' and to provide for them through the school's streaming and in some cases fast-tracking, and through differentiation in teaching. What is provided for those identified differs from school to school. It is best to ask the school about what they provide for their G&T pupils.

Normally, identification at secondary school level is based on performance data. I guess the information you already have should help the new school to understand where he fits in.
