Is there a G&T co-ordinator at the school you could ask for advice?

First find out what subjects they believe she's g&t for.

Then ask what levels she's at (to gauge how far above average she is). Its a bit more difficult if shes g&t for art & music, but if its numerousy, literacy, science then they should be able to give you her NC levels. If she's yr1 average child will be expected to get 1b by the send of this year, end of year 2 expected level is 2b & for some perspective, end of year 4 is 3b.

Next ask about differentiation. The school will have a g&t policy document, (which may have come with the letter you received, if not ask if you can have a copy). Examples of things they might do are move her up to the next year group for maths, (if that's her strong subject), or there might be a couple of dcs working at a similar level in her strong subject(s) so they might do in class differentiation, (they do this in my dcs school).

Also, ask if there are any other advantages to being on the g&t list in your area eg interschool masterclasses, special day trips, a science club or whatever, so you can make the most of the opportunities.

My dd is on the GaT register, she is 3 years old. The key is to get a good school with a good SEN co ordinator. She is only in nursery but she has changed schools because the first school couldn't cope with her. Her new school is fantastic. She has a statement of educational needs which helps because the school is required to give evidence of what they are doing to meet her needs. She has been assessed to be in the top 0.4% in the country. I have had all the usual 'pushy parent' crap thrown at me, but it's not a big deal. People feel the need to make the parents of gifted children feel like crap but that's their problem. All schools have a teacher that is designated to deal with gifted pupils, it's a good place to start (or you could pay for a private psychology assessment which will put in black and white your childs strengths and then the school will have to take you seriously). My daughter has a 1-1 tutor in a state school and has work for her that is at year 2 level, which is suitable for her xxx

noisy, where are you? nursery tried to get ds1 assessed when he turned three, and the lea told them they wouldn't assess until yr r at the earliest. interesting that they are doing it now. or did you go private and then threaten them with tribunal for not meeting need?
