This is all a bit new to me i always knew she was good at craft/ art but never thought of her as g&t but we have had a letter home telling us that the school have placed on her g&t register for art and they have invited a local artist to come into school and help her develop techniques and expand her creativity. I am in shock and completely over the moon for her ( dh and I can barely manage stick men) and she always feels average compared to othes ( school has a very very good reputation but they do push the children and although she's doing ok she often compares herself to the children who are excelling at subjects so am pleased that this has given her a huge confidence boost that she desperately needed)

How fantastic for your Dd. you must be so proud. How old is she.

3cutedarlings · 17/11/2011 20:33

Ahhh well done to your DD :). My DD2 is also on the schools G&T register for her art.

She was 7 in sept making her the oldest infant ( she's very proud of that claim to fame) I am unbelievably proud of her and so pleased that she isvo happy about it too (she has one of her pictures on display next to head teachers office I always smile when I go past it) 3curedarlings how old is your dd2?

She is also 7 (just last week) :) have to say like yourselves i am amazed she has this skill, neither me nor DH are even in the slightest bit arty, i enjoy it im just not very good at it. :)

DD1 is also G&T for Maths and literacy, i came out of parents evening walking on air Grin, have a feeling that my DS will also be G&T in bank robbery Hmm Wink.

BeckyBendyLegs · 19/11/2011 11:27

How lovely. I only wish I'd had this opportunity when I was at school, they didn't have such as thing as G&T then. I was very arty and didn't make the most of it at school. Make the most of the opportunity, my biggest regret is not pursuing art and going to art college - how lovely to be recognised and encouraged at school like that. :)

My DS1 is on the G&T register but not sure what for, as it doesn't seem to mean anything at his school really, numeracy and literacy I think.

My DD is 6 (yr 2) and has just been out on the register for art too. I am really pleased too!!! Grin

They have recommended art classes but at the moment I am happy for her to have time concentrating on her literacy skills, which she has always found tougher. maybe in time.....

not out...put

thanks for all the messages (sorry for delay been at work last few days) She had a wonderful day Friday and did a self portrait using pencils (shame that she folded it in 4 so its a bit creased but its amazing)

She is 'average' in most other subjects (but slightly struggling with Maths) so I have asked that if these workshops coincide with maths (or numeracy according to dd1) that they speak to me first as I really don't want her other work to slip.

DD1 has asked for a 'proper' easel for Christmas (we were stuck what to get her as a main present) so just googling different types and shes also asked for some canvases and 'nice' paper (opposed to my printer paper Grin) plus some charcoal (her new favourite way of drawing) and apparently she is going to go to university to study art and then will do paintings to sell and design wedding dresses when she's 24 (she did send Kate Middleton a wedding dress design earlier in the year and got a lovely reply but was very disapointed when we watched the wedding and it wasn't her design!)

It seems year 2 is the year they start recognising the 'arty' children

She's GOOD!!

what a great talent. our dds sound very similar in many ways!

eandh · 20/11/2011 17:44

Thank you am very very proud of her. Her problem is that if a subject doesn't appeal to her she'll do the work but then gets frustrated that it isn't perfect and she didn't get it all right (such a perfectionist) or that someone else is better than her ( tried to explain that everyone is good at different things but not washing with her ) am sure as she gets older it'll get easier but highly strung, emotional, sensitive and perfectionist 7 year old is hard work ( although maybe they are good qualities really?)

my dd loves painting/colouring and does it entirely for herself with no intention of pleasing anyone else. Thus, timing for her is an issue. There is no urgency to finish anything. Does my head in; we have half finshed stuff everywhere Grin

She has also been told by her teachers last year that she 'll be a famous artist when she is older and that does my head in. I have told her she will only if she works hard to get the skills right. I am all for her having this talent but I also want her to understand that success isn't just talent, its also application.

BeckyBendyLegs · 20/11/2011 18:24

Oooh love the drawing - she's got talent for sure!

aularaef · 01/12/2011 14:33

wow, you're little one is really very good at Art, her portrait is fantastic you should be guided by the school she is talented, her detail really is not normal for an enfant child, lucky mummy.
