DS is bright and is reception aged. Has suddenly expressed an interest in science. Any suugestions on things or books to buy would be appreciated. Have also found a good website but ds is wanting to buy a kit but they all seem to be for much older children.

Try John Lewis - they used to have one for age 5 plus for around £10. Might have been called kitchen science. Lots of easy & interesting experiments!

Usborne have a book called 100 science experiments which we've used a lot as well as the john lewis kit which is great. They have other science books as well.

here

iirc the science museum has a few age appropriate things too

Kits can be very expensive for what you get out of them, (we had a fairly disappointing weather one for christmas) - much better off using books and your own resources.

you will definitely need a large bag of balloons Grin

My son (almost 5 years) loves anything electrical! :-o My hubby bought a set from Maplin, switches, bells, wire, bulbs, basically a circuit set. You can build your own door bell, light, functional fan and so forth and its not too expensive.

We also had the Insect Lore Butterfly Garden. We watched caterpillars turn into butterflies, was fantastic :) (bought from Amazon)

Volcano Making Kit (bought from Ebay) Great for learning about volcanoes and actualy watching how it erupts using soda and vinegar :)

You can make you own ballon powered cars. Make your cars with cardboard and bobbin reels for tyres and then use the balloon to power it.

Both my kids are nearly 5 and 6 and love sciencey stuff :)
