I'm not sure, but from reading another thread on here it's maybe a year 2 level? She loves reading Milly Molly Mandy books to herself, but I think we have them all now and need something else! She's very sensitive and gets scared eaily, so the books need to be totally innocent, like the Milly Molly Mandy ones!

The My Naughty Little Sister series by Dorothy Edwards would be ideal. Also I think the Teddy Robinson stories, forget who they are by.

The faraway tree by enid blyton
Oliver Moon books
winnie the pooh
Mr men books

There are about a million enid blytons for young children, Mr Meddle, Mr Pinkwhistle, o'clock tales, popular rewards. I don't know where 'popular rewards' came from but if you put it in amazon or ebay you will see hundreds of them.

L loved Mary Kate by Helen Morgan when I was that age.

Ooh, and Little Old Mrs Pepperpot, by Alf Proyson was another - if it is still in print.

Mr Men series might be good - but pretty much any kids picture books - the ones you read to children of that age. We really like the Jez Alborough, and anything by Julia Donaldson.

I second Mr Men books - very good for the year 2 level reader who is younger as they are sweet, harmless and fun stories.

I am a little wary of Horrid Henry as he is so darn rude and think he sets a bad example for very young ones, even though he usually gets his comeuppance.

Olga da Polga
The Wombles
Kaspar (Michael Morpurgo)
Those dratted Fairy books
The Worst Witch series

There are lots of colourful picture books for that age. They are designed for an adult to read to a child, but if you have a good reader they are ideal for them to read instead. I bought several bag loads for next to nothing second hand and there is always the library too. It does get expensive if you buy new.

How about some non-fiction? I just got a set of 14 science books worth £70 for £9 on thebookpeople (code SAGASAVE) - they are aimed at age 5+. Or if you have shops like The Works, they often have good fact books.
