Ed Psy Results - advice please!

Hi My DS is 4 & moves frm nursery to Recep in Sept. The school have noticed he is high ability & also has some sensitivities so we have had him assessed by a reputable Ed Psy using the Wechsler Pre-school & Primary tests, British Abilities scale Reading & Arithmetic & Vernon Spelling tests.

His IQ is 150, his reading age 10 years 10 months (BAS) & 10 years 9 months (Wechsler), Spelling 9 years on both scales & Maths 6 years 10 months (BAS) & 6 years 9 months (Mental Arithmetic WISC.

The Ed Psy recommends acceleration.

School say they will concentrate on getting him to share more & make more friends and leave the 'learning' side alone pretty much for the year.

He taught himself to read and only started any form of nursery in May so has had just about 2 months of school and no previous mixing with groups of kids as I am at home with him. But he is catching up quickly & is very happy to play with kids we've met of all ages through the holidays.

I found school very, very boring so am worried & would love any helpful advice - thanks! Confused

I would first have a conversation with the Ed psych. Explain the situation with the school and ask for the pros and cons of acceleration.

Then I would have a conversation with the school about their concerns and fears about acceleration. It might be that they do not have space in the year above, which is not good enough.

I would point out that they referred your son to the Ed psych because they wanted advice.

At the very least he should have an IEP (Individual Education Plan) with suitable enrichment provided.

I thought I might be shot down in flames so thank you for your replies as they are very helpful! Pixie your advice is spot on I think my son is similar - not advanced at PE or art either & can interact happily with a boy 8 months younger but same year for a 2 hour playdate so I would hate for him to miss out on this level of play and be forced to grow up too quickly! If I can get the school to understand that he needs to be able to write sometimes etc. I am sure he will be happy, well for now anyway!
