non-blanching rash but I feel fine

I have a non-blanching rash on my chest. Little dark red pin pricks. Not raised or itchy.

I've phoned NHS direct and I'm waiting for the on-call doc to ring.

Given that I feel fine, does anyone know what else can cause a rash like this?

My son gets this from heavy coughing and/or vomiting. They're tiny burst blood vessels. Unless you know exactly what is causing it though, it should usually be checked out.

ok, that sounds harmless enough

excessively strenuous cough or vomiting session

abrasian (like a seat belt rubbing)?

DS2 had a rash like this, GP called an ambulance to bring us from the practice to A&E, frightened the living daylights out of me as we all immediately thought of meningitis. It turned out he had Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia (ITP) a problem with his platelets. It was the result of a virus/cold he had had the previous week. He felt totally fine but had to have inpatient treatment. There were no side-effects and he's unlikely to get it again.

Best to get it checked out, hopefully it's nothing significant

I get this, but mainly on my face, around my eyes, when I vomit. Have you been vomitting/coughing lately?

LowLevelWhinging · 04/07/2010 20:31

no coughing or vomiting.

I had a seat belt on that side last night...

Right, I can stop thinking I'm dying now

Had to go to the on-call doc. He said it could be a side effect of citalopram so I have to get bloods checked.

It's always nice to not have meningitis innit?

Glad it's nothing major.

So I went and had loads of bloods taken this morning, no prob.

Then tonight noticed that my 2 yr old DS has the same kind of rash on his back. He's otherwise completely fine, as am I.

So it can't be a medicine reaction then can it?!

How can we both have a rash like this?

BTW, I am keeping an eye on him and we'll both go to the doc in the morning.

Anyone still reading this?

Took DS2 to the doc's and he sent him up to the hospital to be checked over. His tonsils are a bit enflamed but no other symptoms so we were sent home thankfully.

Then I went to pick DS1 up from nursery and one of the staff has the same rash!

Does that mean we're all just fighting off the same virus?

Still reading LLW, strange that you all have the same rash. Hopefully it will disappear with no ill effects
