I've had failed root canal work on one of my molars. I need to face up to it and get the thing taken out. I have an abcess, but it doesn;t hurt, but flares up every few days.

How painful is an extraction? Can i have a ton of pain relief end numbing? Does it take long?

I've had 3 c-sections but this terrifies me! Plus i'm gutted i'm going to loose a tooth

btw, it cost me £120 to have my tooth out. £100s cheaper than root canal + crown but still expensive, I thought.

IMO root canal work was MUCH worse than an extraction and an abcess about a million times worse than anything else, even childbirth and I really mean that.

If you have had Root canal and an abcess then imvho you have already been through the worst of it.

Ok, so all of you who've had teeth out - what do you have in their place?! This is the main thing putting me off having one of my molars out - have been prevaricating ever since the dentist mentioned the word "denture" !

I wondered that - do i just leave a gap? I'm still on my maternity prescription/free dental malarky so the treatment will be free. Tooth in question is 3rd from back so i'm not sure how obvious a gap would be. I'd obviously have to pay for a new tooth....any ideas how much?

I lost most of one of my front teeth in an accident when i was small and it was replaced with a crown on a post but it has now come away and the dentist has told me the root canal will not take another one and i need to have an implant. What is left of the tooth is very minimal and there is not a lot to get hold of to extract it. For this reason i keep putting it off as i am petrified and am wondering how they can extract the tooth with so little (i am talking only about 1-2mm)if anything to pull on.Can anyone help or reassure me.
