Strange cervical things

Hi all
just after some experiences if possible. When I was pregnant with dd I noticed some strange things on my cervix - has anyone had anything similar?

They were like White hanging lumps, quite small. The 'bulb' end of the growth was about the size of a pea. When I touched them they bled slightly but were fine almost immediately. They were on the bit where the cervix meets the vaginal wall and there were two of them.

Sound like polyps to me, why don't you describe them to GP and ask for a referral to a gynae for a colposcopy? They are really easy to sort out, not much worse than a smear test.

Thanks. I did wonder about polyps but thought that they were usuall red and protruding from cervical canal thingie.

Am planning on seeing gp again. I did mention them and she gave me an internal but was quite dismissive and said she couldn't feel anything

Not sure on significance of colour but I have seen cervical polyps in all different positions. Colposcopy will expose them more easily as you'll find the mahoosive bright light they shine up your fanjo will highlight them a bit more . I would have thought they were difficult to feel manually, colposcopy involves speculum and staining cervix with iodine/acetic acid, plus camera and bright light. They usually nip them off there and then, and its all quite civilised.

Thanks CaptainWinky, you sound like you know what you're talking about. DD is 20 months now so i suppose if it was anything more serious i would be having other symptoms and I'm not.

I will see my GP again once my period ends.

Has anyone had anything similar?

Had colposcopy. Was over before I even realised they were doing it. Don't know what colour it was though, sorry. Ask GP to refer you to Gynaecologist (though preferably not the one I had-she was terrifying brisk head girl type like something out of the Chalet School books).

Am I really the only one who wants to know how in hell you saw something on your own cervix?!?

debka · 01/07/2010 13:33

No you're not cakes, I am only vaguely aware of where my cervix is- have never even felt it let alone had a LOOK!!!

Cakesandale · 01/07/2010 13:36

That's a relief debka - I think I'd do myself an injury if I tried to take a peek

Dropdeadfred · 01/07/2010 13:38

yes how do you spot it all the way up...y'know...THERE???

anotheranonymousposter · 01/07/2010 15:16

I know! I'm not actually sure, I have never tried before or since but when I was pregnant with DD I think my midwife made a comment about how my cervix would be looking at this stage of pregnancy...

So I took a look.

It wasn't very dignified

Yikes!

Thanks for clearing that up. Do you have a stiff nick/back injury now?

anotheranonymousposter · 02/07/2010 16:19

No!

I'm becoming increasingly embarrassed about this now, but if you must know I used a mirror

OP posts:
debka · 02/07/2010 20:51

i want to try it too... is that weird??

Meglet · 02/07/2010 20:54

I'm still amazed you can see up there even with a mirror . I can do my own brazillian wax with a mirror but nothing else!

Forgive the innocence of my question but is that what happens after you have given birth, that you can see everything

BelaLugosiNoir · 02/07/2010 21:23

Sounds like Nabothian follicles to me. These are formed when the mucus secreting glands (usually in the endocervical canal but can be out on the ectocervix) get covered by other 'skin' the glands still produce mucus underneath and therefore form cystic structures on the cervix.
To be sure though I would recommend a trip to see your practice nurse, they have seen many many cervices!
