i havent found one that works in england other than conditioner and nit comb, which is very effective

Im a headlice novice. how often do you usually have to attack with conditioner and nit comb before theyre all gone?

Ive really had enough of insects this year. I spent the weekend fumigating the kitchen against horrid little mites, weve had ant attacks, food moths, clothes moths, giant spiders, and I found something with 6 legs among the children's socks, that Ive never seen before. It escaped destruction only because it did such a good impression of a dead leaf that I thought it must have wondered in from the woods, rather than being a sinister blood sucker.
why are there so many b*y insects this year????

omg that sounds really scary lol!

i tend to comb, then redo a few days later and a few days later for about two weeks and then usually once a week just to check (tho am not bothering during summer hols). i think eggs take two weeks to hatch so comb every few days for that long to stop any that hatch out maturing and laying new eggs. we have competitions to see who has the most (bit of competition stops them running off). i started combing after spending a fortune on full marks mouse and then still combing out wriggling ones (bleurgh)

NN - I know Dr Hauschka does a shampoo that treats nits but don't know if it works And anyway, are nits the same as lice? I'm no help at all am I

Nightynight · 16/08/2005 09:16

thank you both!

yes, I think nits are the same. Ill enquire about Dr Hauschka, and buy a large bottle of conditioner, or six as well. what fun eh

Have a look at this thread nighty night - there truly is only one way to keep on top of head lice and I'm afraid it is the conditioning and wet combing method for two weeks to break the cycle of hatching and laying eggs combined with regular checking. Good luck.

From what I have researched recently the only sure way is conditioner and combing - every few days. This also gets rid of eggs if you do it with the right comb. You can get a BugBusters Kit over the internet with different combs. Even if you decide not to get this make sure you have proper nit comb. Metal ones make it hard to see eggs.

I've been doing battle with headlice for about three years, off and on. I have four kids and have tried most things, be they herbal or full-blown organo phosphates.

The ONE thing which actually works and is non toxic is LICE ATTACK. It really works. They provide a half decent comb too, but better still, fork out for a Nitty Gritty comb. Unbeatable.

Lice Attack is available online on this website for one .

It's the only thing I've tried where the lice actually come out on the comb dead.
Mwuhuhuhuhu!

thank you v much, everyone, for so many tips.
Evidently I need a nitty gritty comb first. The one I have got gets lice out, but not eggs.
