Crushing fatigue. Why??

OopsDoneItAgain · 28/06/2010 19:50

Admittedly it is worse since its been warm, but its getting beyond a joke now. I feel like someone has sucked all the bones from my body, and I just want to be able to lie down. It is usually worse afternoons, and with 2 under 4s at home it is really hard work at the mo. I eat well, have been tested for Thyroid a while back and all was fine. I am on citalapram (an AD) which Im told can make you tired, but dosage hasn't changed lately. Any suggestions as to why I feel like this...? TIA for any replies.

is your haemoglobin OK?

PlasticCenturion · 28/06/2010 19:56

Are the ADs working?

And have you had your other blood levels checked?

PlasticCenturion · 28/06/2010 19:57

Any other illnesses lately? Before the fatigue started? Just a cold even?

OopsDoneItAgain · 28/06/2010 20:00

Haven't had other bloods done for a while (fatigue seems to be a regular visitor for me) tho haemoglobin normally ok.

ADs are ok, helped a lot initially, now stable but too scared to come off!!

Thanks for replies btw. It just seems wierd its so much worse afternoons.

The usual colds etc PC. Tho hayfever has been a bit of a drag lately. Hmm. Can anti-histamines make you feel rough? (Bearing in mind I take them first thing, but feel particularly tired much later.)

check you antihistamine, a lot of them can make you drowsy.

Failing that heamoglobin check again and also iron levels as even if hb ok low iron levels can make you feel rough.

Oh and sleep - are you getting enough? because with 2 under 4's at home it is exhausting.

OopsDoneItAgain · 28/06/2010 20:20

Sleep is a bit of an issue nellie. DC1 (nearly 5)still wakes at least once a night. But DH does his share of getting up so I can't complain too much!

Think I will try another brand of anti-histamines and see if that helps.

Then perhaps bloods again.

littlemissindecisive · 28/06/2010 20:26

OopsDoneItAgain · 28/06/2010 20:43

Thyroid

Ask about thyroid levels next time you see your Gp.
Simple blood test will confirm.

It explained my total lack of vavavoom.
are you also finding yourself slowing down, too tired to think straight, maybe putting on a bit of extra weight ?
Check out that thyroid!

It could well be your antihistamines.

I was going to post on here a week or so ago under almost the same title as your post! I often feel very tired (but have very full lifestyle so not surprising) but recently started to feel absolutely exhausted and could fall asleep any time.

I had started taking loratadine for hayfever - it's supposedly non-drowsy, and I'd used it in preference to some others I'd tried before. I didn't feel I could stop taking it as the hayfever is VILE and makes me feel terrible in a different way.

In the end I went to the doctor (not a common thing for me but I was desperate). He was great - said loratadine was usually recommended to be non-drowsy but this didn't mean it couldn't affect some people.

He suggested swapping onto nasal spray and eye drops as these treat specific symptoms and are not greatly absorbed by the body, just acting locally.

Since I have changed over to these I feel LOADS better.

(I did ask him if a blood test for e.g. anaemia would be a good idea and he said yes, but the earliest appointment I could get was 4th July, so haven't done that yet!)

It could also be a wheat intolerance my DH HAS to sleep whenever he forgets about his wheat intolerance (even wholewheat bread can cause this!). Also try googling earth clinic.

OopsDoneItAgain · 29/06/2010 19:17

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I skipped the anti - histamine today, and feel maybe a bit less knackered but will certainly look into many of the other ideas here too. Will go without wheat tomorrow I think! And may get an iron supplement of some kind too, see if that helps. Cant be bothered with the doc for blood tests tbh, been there too often before for the same reason and nothing ever comes up...
