Although it is correct to say that Sodium Cromoglicate is licensed for treating Seasonal Allergic Conjunctivitis (the eye part of Hayfever) in children, it is perhaps not the best choice.

Sodium Cromoglicate is a Mast Cell Stabiliser which means it tends to have a delayed effects. Most evidence points to a 4-6 week lagtime for full benefit.

If your child is alreday getting symptoms, then an Anti-Histamine, which has a very fast effect, might be a better choice.

Although there are many different varieties of Ant-Histamine eye drop they are only a few which are licensed for children, only have a twice a day administration (better for children and available from pharmacists (I figure if you wanted to discuss this with your G.P. you'd have already gone.

So what you're looking for is: Optravine-Anistin which has the ingredients Antazoline Sulphate and Xylometazoline Hydrochloride in it.

It should be avaiulable at your local pharmacy.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. Re gp - I didn't think it was something that deserved valuable GP time, I thought he'd think I was wasting his time with something like hayfever. (Like I was one of those mothers )
