The skin on my lower leg got dry - started itching and scratching and now have a largish red patch. Most unsightly.

Started to use Lancane then showed the practice nurse who said to use a mild hydrocortison cream. This did sweet fa.

Thing is it is sooo itchy I drew blood last night scratching it.

I have gone back to Lancane and will show gp on the 9th when I have appt.

Can anyone suggest anything else in the meantime?

Also am newly diagnosed type 2 so there could be issues of wound healing too!!

try eurax cream or lotion...but dont use hydrocortisone on broken skin as it is contraindicated. Yes there can be issues of wound healing with diabetes so take care.Diabetes can cause fungal skin infections which can be itchy

You need to intensively treat the dryness - my best thing for legs is to have a warm (not hot) bath with emollient, then slather leg with a really thick layer of plain aqueous cream - big dollops of it without having dried your legs. Then wrap your legs in clingfilm, and leave overnight.

It moisturises, stops you scratching in your sleep, and will really sort them out.

Using E45 Anti Itch or Aloe Vera gel can be very soothing in the day too

I have dry and often itchy skin. I bathe with oilatum, and use E45 itch cream when I have a rashy bit.

put some pinhead oatmeal in the foot of a stocking/tights foot and use it in the bath like a sponge- you'll get gloopy white liquid out of it. Wash with it and nothing else and pat dry your skin before applying aqueous cream. And, harder said than done- don't scratch!!!!

A relief equivalent to that gorgeous scrath feeling without doing damage is to apply a rather hot flannel to the itchy bit. Good luck.
