Less risk with MMR at 5 years than 18 months?

My GP seems to think that there are far less reported cases of adverse reactions (for which include autism) for the MMR given at pre school age (just before 5 years) then when it is given at 18 months.

I know there are a lot of vaccination knowledgeable people on here. Can anyone please confirm if this is true? I seem to recall reading about a tragic report of a boy dying aged 9+ from the MMR (not ill before) so I am not sure if this is correct and that there is no difference depending on the age when the MMR is given.

Thanks very much.

Watching with interest; you have saved me asking the question OP.
Am thinking of having Dd immunised with her first MMR soon; she's 3.6 and will be starting nursery school in September.

From the little I know all immunisations carry a slight risk of death or serious disablement. I believe the government pay for vaccine damaged babies/children, but risk is tiny. It has always been accepted just as in rare cases people are allergic to anaesthetic. This is any vaccine, not just MMR.
I have heard of a mum on mumsnet who's pre schooler was given the first MMR and developed autism. This is extremely late for autism anyway, so was it vaccine related or another illness causing brain injury (like meningitis). Don't know, sorry? Dont know personally what to think re autism.
We are sticking with singles for second lot purely because DGS has been fine with them (no mumps though!)

No, there was a shortage of one of the singles wasn't there? was it mumps?

We have autism in the family, mostly boys and I did let Ds have the MMR at 18months reluctantly and he has shown quite a few of the markers for ASD. I just didn't want to risk it with Dd, but now she is off to nursery...

There is no evidence linking Autism Spectrum Disorder to the MMR vaccination.
Or any other vaccination for that matter.

In fact, it's worth saying that there is a lot of evidence that points to there not being a link between vaccines and ASD.

All you do by delaying the injection is increasing the risks of infection for your child and those who come into contact with them.
